This book is very well written but I'm sure there is something always lost in translation since the author is Norweigian. It is exactly what the summary of the book is about; an older man looking back and remembering his youger years starting with his being a teenager. The way the author makes the transition between his young and current life is so smoothly done that it takes a paragraph before you, as the reader, realize where he is. There are very interesting parts of his life that he talks about which keeps you wanting to know more. The part that is even more interesting is what the author does not tell in his story. I you are a reader who likes to fill in the gaps with your imagination this is the book for you.
I had seen this book advertised so many times that I decided to give it a try. So glad I did. A wonderful book, beautifully written. Sometimes it's hard to decide whether it is the author or the translator that should be given credit. I'll give it to both.
good book and as described
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
I was very satisfied with the condition of the book I ordered and felt it was accurately described prior to purchasing. The Norwegian author, Per Petterson, was recommended by a friend because of his particular style of story telling. He leaves room for your imagination and conclusions.
This is a very evocative book set in Norway. It transports you to another time, another place, and is mesmerizing. I bought it because my book group is reading it, and am happy about that.
