After reading reviews and waiting months to purchase this lens, I finally did so and have no regrets. The lens is super sharp and focus is very fast. I picked this lens over the Canon 100-400 for a couple reasons. 1. The length of the lens is fixed during zoom or focus. 2. The F-stop is fixed. 3. Cost. I primarily take outdoor pictures of landscapes and wildlife. I'm using a 40D. As you will see in reviews, the down size of the lens is that it's kind of a middle of the road lens meaning that the zoom length isn't very long and F4 isn't exactly a fast lens. I personally have had no light problems with this lens. I was accustomed to shooting a 70-200 F4L, so stepping into this lens was easy. The lens is built like a brick house and has some weight to it, but it feels just right on the camera. I find adding the battery grip, though it increases the overall weight, balances the lens better. I consider myself an advanced amateur photographer.Read full review
