The tuners are well constructed but lacking in two areas. First, for my application the "staggered" tuners are only half-staggered. These tuners are in three heights, in two tuner groups. I suppose this cuts manufacturing costs greatly but the result is tuners that apply different string pressures on the nut instead of evenly increasing the break angle as you progress through the tuner set. In short, you have to put up with a compromise. My tuners are a 6-in-line so this seems shoddy to me. On the plus side however, I would think that this would be fine for someone using a 3X3 guitar. Perhaps Hipshot could consider a product fine tuned (no pun intended) for each application. Now about my gouging complaint...........! The tuning keys that come on these tuners are just plain UGLY. But wait! You can fix this if you spend more money and shell out for the tuner buttons that you wanted in the first place. When an order is placed, the customer should be able to specify the tuner buttons of their choice at no extra cost. This is, I suppose, good marketing from the manufacturers point of view but as a customer I feel like I've been had. The finish on these looks great, the chrome on the extra set of buttons I had to buy matches the tuner bodies well. I like the exposed-gear look and these are a lot cheaper than Waverlys while I feel they look far better than Grover open gears. Thanks for your time.Read full review

With these Hipshot locking tuners! You may have to ream the peg holes to make it fit if you don’t get the right size for vintage or vintage reissue fenders specifically ! The installation is easy as 123 and the universal mount plate does the alignment for you so it will be a perfect installation however; the string locking screws lead to string breakage at the post if you over tighten I broke high E and low E of at least 3 sets of strings on the day of installation; I’ve always exclusively used Schaller locking tuners for 7 years and have never once broken a string at the post however tight I have the locking screw.. so this is not my first rodeo! so the string locking mechanism is not satisfactory in my book and could be better especially compared to The Schaller locking tuners; I decided to give these a try because I’ve used the latter for years!Read full review

super smooth tuners, the locking system is so easy to use & keeps the guitar in tune even after a lot of trem use. the open gear gives my strat a nice vintage look. the staggered design reduces drag on the string trees to the point you could do without one of them. best of all installation is a breeze and will not mark your head stock.
