Lightweight, well-constructed. Seems like it will handle being outdoors just fine. My complaint is not with the construction, or the reliability, but with the odd method you have to connect to configure the unit initially. For starters, the default IP address is the same as many people's existing network router. So the very first thing I had to do was change the IP address on my main router, so that there would be no conflict when trying to connect to the EnGenius unit, just to get the EnGenius unit's IP address changed. The next thing I figured out is that configuring the EnGenius unit is much more successful if you use one Ethernet cable to POWER the unit (through the PoE port, and the supplied PoE injector, but not connected to your network,) and then temporarily connect a SECOND Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the unit. This will give you much better success getting to the browser-based configuration page, and having those settings actually 'stick'. The configuration interface that appears in your browser has 'Save & Apply' buttons, which seem straight-forward. But many of the changed settings actually go into a "queue", and you have to go to another menu (the top menu choice) to actually "apply" all those "queued up" changes before they will take effect. Not intuitive. And the manual that you can find online is really not very helpful. It says WHAT all the options are, but doesn't really EXPLAIN them. A lot of acronyms are used with no explanation or definition. After figuring all this out over a couple days, I finally got my unit configured to be an extra, outdoor wireless Access Point for my existing network, with my existing router still acting as the DHCP server and gateway for the EnGenius unit. It's working fine, and now I have good wireless signal out to my shop building across the property. It was just harder to configure than it needed to be. On that point, I would say the EnGenius is not very "genius". But again, it does seem to be working well.Read full review
