I purchased the CIsco 2911 "Integrated Services Router" as an economical replacement for the long-antiquated Cisco 2811 as I needed the same feature set but with gigabit line-speed/network connectivity. I operate a small ISP and the primary use of my Cisco routers are to maintain BGP sessions with my ISPs (uplink providers) to announce my IP prefixes under my AS numbers and to do basic routing to and from the Internet to servers in our rack at the datacenter. We use other offerings such as pfSense for other network needs but for what we use Cisco, they perform perfectly and above expectation. The 2911 is doing everything above and beyond what the 2811 did - but at a much higher line speed. With the 2811, I was limited to 100Mbit connectivity to my uplinks. While there were gigabit upgrade cards available for the 2811, I was advised against them because the 2811 overall lacks in processing power and memory to handle the amount and rate of data and simultaneous connections to which a consumed 1Gbit network link would be subject. With the 2911, I am now running at gigabit speed and have the latest version of Cisco IOS with all licensed features I need and had with the 2811. For anyone looking to upgrade their 2811, I highly recommend the 2911 as replacement, and for anyone looking for a good solid router that is capable of doing virtually anything to a gigabits load of data, as well!Read full review
