Finding a waterproof phone with some decent specs which you don't have to pay through your nose for is hard. Best bet has been the Samsung S5 Mini which features a handy size and swapable battery. With 1.5 GB RAM and a not-exactly cutting edge processor, it's not perfect and has in my experience been quite unstable as a result. Enter HTC Desire Eye, which is a weird mix of being a selfie-phone and the robustness of a more outdoorsy phone. It knocks the S5 Mini out of the park, performance-wise, and actually has a quite average battery life. But by not having the option to swap battery in the field, the whole waterproofness seems a bit odd. Where the HTCDE fails in it's size. Noone on this planet have ever asked for a more-than-five-inches screen, and the 5.2'' is frankly ridiculous. It makes it hard for even a big handed lad as I to reach the edges on the screen, and the phone would have been way better, if they'd chosen either the 4.5'' or at least just stuck with 5'' (as e.g. The LG Nexus 5-phone has and excels in having). The upside is, of course, the cameras of the HTCDE (the front one is even better than the main one on the S5 Mini), stability, and how the phone handles programs. In the end a decent phone, but with a design flaw which is plain odd... Of course, there are alternatives (Samsung S6 Edge, S7), but that's a completely different price bracket - and it's hardly worth it...Read full review
