Dopo i figli, il suo grande amore sono stati i tanti bambini incontrati nel corso delle missioni come ambasciatrice dell’UNICEF, nei luoghi dove vivere è una lotta quotidiana contro la fame, le malattie e la guerra. Fu proprio durante un viaggio che cominciò ad avvertire i primi sintomi del cancro. Completamente concentrata sulle cose da fare e sui bisogni gravi e urgenti da soddisfare, rimandò accertamenti e cure, compromettendo forse l’esito della sua ultima battaglia. È proprio questa vita esemplare, fatta di bellezza e talento, di sensibilità e altruismo, che ci racconta Bertrand Meyer-Stabley, restituendo alla star che tutti ammiriamo una ricchezza interiore e una profondità autenticamente umane.
