I bought this camera after months of deliberation. My previous camera was a Canon 40D with L glass, so my standards are fairly high. I had considered a Canon 50D, but to be honest, I didn't want the features. I don't want to pay for HD video, when there are loads of little 'simpler' features that can enhance photography instead. You've probably read the specs for this camera already, but here is a brief list of the important ones, including ones that you probably didn't know it had. - In-camera image stabilisation. Realistically 2-3 stops of low light performance. It does mean that every lens you put on will be stabilised, even old manual focus lenses. - 72 Weather seals to keep dust and moisture out. - Dedicated RAW and Auto-bracket buttons. VERY useful. - Mirror lock-up automatic with 2sec self-timer. So easy to use. - Link AE to AF point. Not only can you specify which point to use for AF, but the camera will use that point to work out exposure too. Clever. - AF automatically disabled in remote mode. Simple but time saving. - Auto EVC. Camera automatically compensates when proper exposure is impossible. Great for amateur photographers who want to experiment, but don't want to mess up too badly. - 3-5 shot autobracket, upto +/-3EV. If you're in to HDR, this is the camera for you. I love this feature. Combined with one shot auto bracket, this makes HDR easy. I frame my shot, and hit the shutter button once, the camera fires 5 times, at -3, -1.5, 0, +1.5, +3, and I have the ingredients of a perfect HDR shot. You'd have to buy a Nikon D200 or D300 to have this capability. More money. - AF fine adjustment, allows you to adjust focus characteristics of individual lenses. The chances of you buying a pefectly set-up lens from a store are very poor. Check some lens reviews to read about people having returned lens for focus issues. With this feature you can adjust focus issues yourself in your own home, easily. Take that worry out of lens buying. GREAT feature. - Digital preview. Not just brightness warning, but darkness too. This feature flashes the under and over exposed parts of your photo during preview and playback of a shot image. - Sensitivity (Sv) Priority mode. Set the iso, and the camera does the rest. - Shutter and Aperture (TAv) Priority mode. Choose your speed and aperture, and the camera will automatically adjust the ISO to try to make the shot achievable. Brilliant for when you HAVE to get that shot. I'm not a professional photographer, but I do want a pro feel to my shots, and as an opportunistic photographer I don't want to have to plan a shot and arrive in a field at dawn to get a nice pic. This camera does everything I want and more. 14 Megapixels pictures, exposed beautifully, can be captured under difficult conditions. I find that more of photos are 'keepers' than with any other camera I've ever owned. Without feeling like you're losing control this camera can be relied on to assist you with photo taking, in almost imperceptible ways. No other camera comes close.Read full review
This is now my third digital camera, but I had owned S.L.R.s for many years. I find this camera much more versatile than a film S.L.R. Due probably the mini computer that is built in. I find the programs/settings are easy to use with customisation a plenty, certainly enough for any discerning photographer. The Samsung is built on the Pentax, and as such it is a match for many much more expensive cameras. I have had some good results from it so far, even though I am still puting it through it's paces. On the negative side I cannot understand why the present crop of D.S.L.R. are so big! Surely with electronics, and miniturisation, they should be getting smaller, or is it, I wonder, a fashion thing, may be the modern user thinks big is beautifull. If any one reading this remembers the Pentax K 200(?)they will know what I mean. Russell JohnsonRead full review
