This for me was an excellent purchase, not just because of the price but because it was a Canon Powershot, refurbished to full working order, a bucket full of features, excellent quality photo's, slightly on the heavy side but would rather that than it feeling cheap and tacky. I bought this as a backup camera but find myself using it more than my main camera - I think that says it all. Fully recommended.
Great little camera ... I know its quite an old model, but my son loves it, easy to use and very versatile
Pros: Lots of manual settings to play with, very good image quality, takes 'AA' batteries, nice ergonomics Cons: An old model now, only 3.2 megapixels, bit heavy compared to newer models, some digital 'noise' on lower-light pictures The Canon A75 is now a good, bargain secondhand buy, and ideal if you have ambitions to move out of the 'auto' and preset 'scene' modes you find on most cameras and do some experimenting. It has quite a few features from more expensive cameras like aperture/shutter priority, full manual, control over ISO settings, you can even set the shutter speed as slow as 15 seconds! I have found though on indoor shots in low light there does tend to be quite a bit of noise, probably from the higher ISO settings. You can set it manually lower, though the use of a tripod or other steadying would be needed as the shutter speed would be lower. Another downside is that the model is now about 5 years old and only 3.2 megapixels. As I've said in another reviews though it's the lens quality that counts, you can have as many megapixels as you want but if the lens is no good then the pictures will be disappointing. The pictures from this camera are very good though, putting many new cameras to shame! Overall, this would be an ideal camera if you want to try some more advanced techniques, as a cheap 'go-anywhere' camera for when you don't want or can't take your dSLR, and now dirt cheap (I got one for £21 inc postage), and as it takes 'AA' batteries (abeit it takes 4!) you can simply buy more from the nearest shop if you get caught short with flat batts! I'd recommend using some high-capacity NiMH rechargeables, they last a long time and will save you a fortune in the long run. Got get one, switch the dial to 'Manual' and start playing!Read full review
I've always had Canon cameras so I bought this camera for my son. It is very easy to use and is a good basic Canon camera however the LCD screen is faulty so at times it doesn't work making it difficult to take photos and very annoying that you can't view photos once they are taken! Having googled this fault, I see that this appears to be a common problem for this model so for that reason I would have to say that whilst a great price, this camera is just average.
I already have one of these and I wanted one for my wife so that we could share the same software. This is a very straightforward camera, takes excellent pictures and has sufficient options for the amateur who just wants good pictures. The battery has to be looked after to give it a decent life but rechargeables work very well in it. Pictures are sharp and the zoom does not destroy this to any great degree. It has been updated several times since this model. This is a good range of standard digital camera and at £50 on ebay in its original box was a bargain.
