I bought From Russia with Love for my mother who is a big Sean Connery fan (only in the bond movies though). She always says 'Imagine having him as your milkman!' because apparently Sean was a milkman before he was an actor. Anyway, my mum swears this is the cream of the Bond films and that it is the one that Sean Connery is at his absolute peak of fitness. The movie itself is wonderfully clever and fast paced with baddies galore, men and women, and of course Bond always gets his gal.
Made in the days before gadgets started to take over, From Russia With Love still stands up as one of the best in the series - possibly THE best in my opinion. The cast are all marvellous especially Robert Shaw as Red Grant and Lotte Lenya as Rose Klebb. Daniela Bianchi remains one of the loveliest Bond girls as Tatiana Romanov. Of course, Connery is as good as ever. The plot is quite simple compared to some of the other films and it keeps you in suspense, especially during the sequence set on the Orient Express. This is where one of cinema's greatest fight sequences takes place - in a cramped train compartment in which Connery and Shaw go at it in a brutal fight to the death. Special mention must be given to John Barry - his score is first class and of course he set the musical style of Bond which David Arnold commendably is continuing to this day. A classic Bond.Read full review
