I was amazed at the difference in image quality between this K1 and my cropped sensor Pentax K3's. No camera can do everything. I still rely on my K3's for most of my bird and other wildlife photography. I also use a Canon 80D with a Tamron 150-600mm for this type of photography. I rely on my Canon 70D for my sports & schools photography. However, if I am shooting from the car with my Grizzly beanbag and Pentax 560mm lens or using this set up on a tripod, the image quality of the K1 is superior. I same goes for landscape photography and portraits. Last night I used the K1 for the 1st time to photograph an annual gala for the MACC. Very little post processing has been needed other than straightening and cropping images (a problem I personally have with any camera I use). Performs amazingly well! Attach a large aperture lens to it and it’s a beast in low light! Possibly the best low light camera out there. Love the durability and quality. Get the three legendary limited Pentax lenses (31,43,77mm) and you’ll have a very powerful, fast focusing, low light dream, compact, full frame DSLR. Only down side is the auto focus but it’s not bad actually. However, it’s not a sports camera and if that is important to you there are many choices better suited. I own the Pentax K-1 and also the Panasonic GH5, GX85, Fujifilm X-T20, and Fujifilm X-T2. I love all of my cameras. The Pentax is the best built, best at low light, best for landscape and has the most character. Getting to know the Pentax quality, history, and character has been very enjoyable. I’m not a hard core Pentax fan but I get why Pentaxians are a thing. If quality is important to you Pentax will not let you down. The features are also great and well thought out for the type of user this camera is built for. Best camera yet. More affordable and yet as good in terms of quality as Nikon and other more expensive bodies. Like any full frame sensor, many lenses will not work well but this camera will adapt to them and "crop" the photos to avoid the black rings around the outside. Superior features all around. Began with Pentax in 1984. I've come back home, and will never leave again.

Simply the best built digital imaging device out there. lenses including the 28-105 are built using metal and brass, no plastic here! the 70-200 f2.8 also a great system lens. both weather resistant, so go play in the rain - i have and the results are very nice. we have dials instead of buttons. controls are easy to figure out without having to read the manual - after all, we don't need no stinking manual do we - well i do, and it is extensive reflecting the device's abilities. ergonomics are the best in the business. go to your local store and try one out, then compare it to canon or nikon. great lens system, and growing. a love of prime lenses as opposed to boring zoom lenses set this system apart. some of the best glass out there!

Was worried spending three times the amount of the K3 was too much but it's made up for w/ improving lens capabilities w/ better ISO handling at up to 12800 as usable, better wifi, resolution, image quality, Motion Correction Pixel Shift, Astro tracing, GPS, function dial, more accurate autofocus for not missing photos which is priceless.
