I believe that the Nikon FG20 was an amateur slr when it first came out and to be honest you can tell. The body is made of hard plastic with what feels like metal on the top, over all it feels slightly budget. In the hand if feels kind of awkward, the part you hold is just a little to thin. Saying this mine came with a case that made it a lot easier to use. Lastly the film lever, one mine at least moves the shutter speed dial every time I advanced the film. Not a big deal but strange. Okay with that out the way now onto the reasons why I actually really like this camera. For one over all I have found it a joy to use. It has a fully manual mode that forces your to pick the shutter speed/ aperture and the focuses the camera. Although the camera does come with an aperture priority mode. Using it in full auto I feel has improved my photography. Plus the dials just seem to be in the right place. Compared to my d3200 everything is just easy. Now in an ideal world you would get maybe the Nikon f2, fm2 or f3. But if your on a budget then I think you cant go wrong with the fg-20 sure it does not look "as" good but its a joy to use, plus you can use the lenses on newer dslr (although without metering and in manual mode) and in the end isn't this just a box that holds the film?Read full review
