The album entitled Dr Dee contains 18 pieces directly inspired by the life of John Dee, mathematician, genius and adviser to Elizabeth I of England. Described by Albarn as a "strange pastoral folk", Dr Dee represents a close conjunction with the end of another Elizabethan era. The album combines Albarn's voice with both ancient and modern English instruments, accompanied by African and Renaissance sounds. Dr Dee was recorded last year in Albarn's studio in London and Salford with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
