I finally decided to buy a multi region blu ray player as that seemed to be the only way of watching certain films I like (Something wicked this way comes, the rapture, Blood in Blood out the directors cut etc). Now we all know that multi region players have been around for donkeys years - you could even get VHS players that were multi region if you wandered down Tottenham Court road back in the day. But they always had a slightly dubious whiff about them. I can confirm that you get a lovely box fresh new item that could not be any simpler to use. For different region DVDs the region selection is completely automated. For Blu rays when there is no disc in the player you press the correctly coloured button to select region A, B or C (red for region A, green for region B and yellow for region C). And that's it. Just remember to switch back to your domestic region at the end or none of your regular blu rays will play you'll just get a message saying that you have the wrong region player for this disc. The picture quality looks superb and the start up time is good I can see why this player is a What Hifi award winner. The only niggle that I found is - just as the internet reviews warned me - that the 4k upscaling is only so so. I switched it off - if you have a decent spec 4k tv it will probably do a better job of upscaling. Finally you can buy a multi region player with confidence.Read full review

I Sony TV KD-48X and this player was very compatible. I connected them with With HDMI cable of very good quality. When I switch on player, the TV goes to main menu and I start to play inserted disk. That's not all, - I can use preset channels and YouTube. That's can be done with Sony TV, so it features are for simple TV. All region and NTSC, Pal decoding is working with no problems. This player upscales to 4K, you never know, when ir was done, but picture quality is good. Player cant play any 4K, UHD file or disk, so i feel not well. There is new Sony player with 4k feature, but i have one.

Product is not very recent but it is as expected. Bluetooth feature is useful for those who do not want to have a noisy environment late at night (say: output to a headset). This works within the player's features therefore: watching DVD/BluRays and installed Apps. Player is not the fastest loading apps, nor the slowest. It's OK for a standard browsing experience but for those with up-to-date smart-TVs the player may feel a bit on the outdated (sluggish) end. So far no word on how it copes with time since I only have it for a couple months or so.

If you have a bluetooth sound bar for instance other than a compatible Sony one then you need to keep looking. This will not connect via bluetooth to anything but certain Sony stuff. It is some kind of proprietary bluetooth that nobody else uses. I have a samsung sound bar that connects to absolutely anything ... except this. If you look at the detailed specs of this, hidden away in the small print is the fact it only connects to a limited number of compatible devices. If you want bluetooth connectivity this is not the player for you.

Fortunately the surround sound system I bought has a compatible digital coaxial audio input, otherwise I would have been stuffed as that's the only sound output from the Blu-ray player. Finding a cable is a bit of a fuss, most places only stock optical audio cables. Maplin sell them but expensive and not long enough to reach my projector, so I made my own. Otherwise the player is great, with Netflix, Amazon, ITunes, IPlayer etc built in, very convenient. The picture quality is brilliant IMHO.
