Excelent purchase, wonderful T5 router.
I have made it work, and the defective part has been removed. My alternative works so well that I think that it is better than the original spindle lock mechanism. With the original method knuckles were often grazed with the spanner, but using two spanners, no problem.

Great Engineering design
Has all the quality Elu ever had. Been using an MOF131 for more years than I can remember and this one has the same feel.
