Beautifully illustrated. I bought this book having seen some of Simon Jenkins works on Churches and Cathedrals. In a sense these are the modern equivalents temple to transport at a time when mney was invested heavily into the new communication links around the country. just for sheer exploration of designs these are many and various little country stations to the great halls of devotion to travel. well worth the small investment for any one interested in local history and transport, as well as the sheer beauty of the buildings.

SimonJenkins gets under the skin of our railway heritage and int eh stations he selects in his top 100, shows us some of the features we simply overlook in our daily travels through them. It particularly appreciates the modern architecture with great examples such as Surbiton and Canary Wharf. My favourite is the restoration of King's Cross.

It's for a present so haven't read it as such, just flicked through it. I bought it because I thought looking at the front cover it would be full of beautiful pictures of Railways stations but it isn't.
