I'd seen reviews in Guitar Player and other magazines and articles on the Riviera P93, where they could not say enough good things about the instrument. All reviewers said it felt, sounded, was built well above its price point in terms of quality. That's actually quite true, I find, now that I have the thing. I was put off Epiphones in general by a Joe Pass Emperor I had, where I accidentally discovered that the inlays were a laser-printed picture of an inlay on plain paper underneath clear plastic. I was disgusted. This guitar, however, has restored a bit of my faith. I often switch out pickups and hardware to suit me, but on this guitar all I did was load it with my favorite strings, GHS Boomers. Fit of all parts was excellent. Neck is straight and very comfortable to play on. Frets are jumbos. Strings don't "ping" in the nut slots, which are cut correctly. The Bigsby is real, not a licensed version. The P-90s sound very good. Played acoustically, it has a really nice resonance. The finish is quite nice, a deep wine with grain showing that looks pretty great in strong light. My one concern is the middle pickup pushes me out of my favorite picking zone, but I can live with that. That will be a small issue for some people and a greater one for others. I half-expected to be disappointed, that it would have that el-cheapo thing about it or feel/seem more like a toy or a knock-off. I'm happy to report none of those things was the case. It rests next to my 1971 ES-335TD on the wall, and it's hard to decide which to play. There is a lot of bang for the buck here.Read full review

I am a professional, Juilliard trained, musician ( 35 years). I have played all over the world with every type of stringed instrument imaginable. That's my qualifications, this is my opinion : This guitar cannot be beat for it's type and use at any price. I've had guitars custom made for me that this axe goes head-to-head with. I could go into details that would just bore most, but they would be all outstanding. I use the term axe because I use it for work and it chops and shreds every night, night after night and stays sharp with normal maintenence. It's not the only instrument I use, by far, but its one of the best, most dependable ones. This is my opinion and only my opinion. All the best...

The Epi riviera ia a fine instrument made in the old Gibson style. Today's Gibsons are not very well made unless you are up in the startosphere price wise. This model keeps its tune, has all of the nice features you'd expect for much more money. She was set up and has not missed a beat since. Put the correct strings on it and leave the string height pretty much alone and you are good to go. One review I've read complained that the guitar is heavy. Well, just like we don't make anything the way we used to, I guess we don't make our guitarists as we once did either. It is a little heavier because it is well made and SOLID. Try lifting some weights or something and maybe it will not be so heavy.

I have two of these (wine red and gold top), and am crazy about everything about them! I have been playing for 45 years now, and have owned 168 guitars, consisting mostly of Fenders and Gibson’s (I have a database to prove this)...The Riviera P-93 definitely is in my top 10, and is the undisputed champ when it comes to value for the buck. I can easily pass the day just playing them, then pick ‘em up again for some more. Great, great guitar in all respect! Hoping they put them out in more colors some day!
