iv always wanted a dyson vac, but a brand new one is to expensive for me, so I saw this on ebay, I was a bit hesitant, getting one refurbish, but I did, it came quite quickly, when I opened the box, I was shocked, the vac was practicaly brand new, it was easy to fix together, and off I went, vacuuming everywhere, thought my house was clean, but this vac, cleaned better than my henry, its brilliant, I don't no why i never got one sooner. well recommended, plus a 2yr guarantee aswel

It's too early to tell if this will be as reliable as our old DC14 which has had hard use but gave generally good service. However, initial thoughts about the ball design are not all positive. The DC55 is lighter than the DC14 but steering it is unexpectedly hard work on the wrist and not good for prolonged use. We had considered the DC75 model but glad we didn't go for that model as it is even bigger and heavier to manhandle than the DC55. The ball design also doesn't seem to be as stable as the old DC14. Even when it is successfully latched in the upright position (incidentally, it's easy to misinterpret the first loud click as it being locked in the parked position, only to have the handle flop down when you let go) it still seems to be delicately balanced and can be toppled whilst deploying or rewinding the power lead for example. One other slight gripe is that although the DC55 comes with a range of 6 accessories and nozzles, only two of them can be neatly stowed on the vacuum which undermines their usefulness as they tend to get left in the cupboard or possibly mislaid. When first opening the box, the assembly instructions are generally good but omitted to show the small accessory clip and where it fitted on to the vacuum. Moans aside, it has good suction and cleans well despite being half the wattage of the DC14. The filters are also easy to remove and clean.Read full review

I have always had Dysons and thought my old one was still ok but then it died so I bought this one and I am so glad that I did. Some reviews said it was heavy and although it might be a bit heavier than some of the newer models it is no problem to move around (I have a shoulder problem) and it is fabulously easy to steer due to the ball. The suction on it is amazing and my carpets actually looked like new. It was a great price as I bought the manufacturer refurbished from Dyson which still came with a 2 year warranty but was half the price of a brand new one and was double the usual guarantee of other makes. Really pleased and would recommend it to everybody and anybody! Certainly the best Dyson I have had to date and I've had a few! Annie :o)

Bought this product because my old Dyson was on it's last legs and i was able to replace at a competitive price . The good points are that this Dyson is extremely powerful and i doubt few other cleaners could compete in the suction efficiency area, although sometimes it can be too powerful as it actually pulls my rug up making it hard to glide over it. i expect most customers are happy with their vacuum cleaners when first purchased and time will only tell if this product retains it's cleaning ability as it is used more often . This brings me to the negatives which is the weight of the beast .i do not struggle to use it personally ,but some might find it too heavy . The real is issue is that i find the plastic handle twisting under stress as you change direction when using it. i get the feeling that it is only a matter of time before the plastic snaps and new parts are required .Somehow it just doesn't seem as well made as the old Dyson .It seems like the manufacturer has found a way of producing a newer version but with cheaper parts. That said , it cleans extremely well and should last if i treat it gently , very gently !! Finally the power lead is ridiculously long ; i could probably get to my neighbours house if i wanted to . In summary don't be put off if you want a powerful device but be aware of the weight .Read full review

Like all Dyson cleaners this one is easy to assemble from the supplied components. Not sure if this a fault with mine but I find it difficult to turn it on the ball when cleaning hard wooden floors - it seems to stick to the floor with the powerful vacuum. Also when cleaning smooth carpets it can become difficult to push because of the powerful vacuum. On normal carpet pile (i.e. not entirely smooth) the suction and manoeuvrability is fine though. Love the extra cord length on this model compared with others. Could do with a bit more onboard tool storage. Good machine if you can live with the powerful suction.
