It gets rid of most of the sound. You really can practise and not disturb people in the next room. Some reviews say it keeps falling out but I found it stays put if you do not touch it. Your right hand just has to hold the horn by the outside of the bell. The blowing is only slightly different. The sound is sharp but you can get it in tune by pulling sliders out. There is nothing clever about the mute and the price seems excessive but instruments and accessories usually are. My teacher recommends that I do not practice with the mute all the time.

This mute is certainly quiet. Intonation is a bit difficult on the lower register, but may be a price worth paying for the quietness. There is noticeable back-pressure - but that is something commented on for every practice mute I've seen reviewed.
