I have used the older Cleveland wedges for several years, and must convert to the compliant grooves for the level of play I engage in. Cleveland consistently produces a great wedge, and I like non glare of the Black Pearl finish. For me with few modifications to the bounce the club has a consistent feel and even with the change in groves - a consistent performance with this caveat; grab a new ball frequently and keep the clubs clean. I was given a set of these wedges to use along with another brand and I felt most comfortable with the Cleveland wedges and I can't offer much of why except I like the balance and lack of glare. I do feel the zip grooves are less spin-able from rough, however, more acceleration is helpful if you can club down a bit. No changes in bump and runs
I was first introduced to the Cleveland CG15 wedge at a large chain golf store, and the salesman told me to put my fingers over the grooves to feel the mini-grooves between the main grooves - that and knowing that it was "laser-milled" sold me (but just not at that store). Picked up a new 54* (avg distance for me, around 90-110 yards) and 60* (use from 85 yards or less) in black pearl on ebay and was sooo excited to bring them out to the course. I was at first, a little disappointed because of the hype, since they didn't provide the 10 foot spin back as I had hoped, rather, they spun back around 1 - 3 feet on average (sometimes less, sometimes more depending on course conditions) which was no different that my Titleist spin-milled vokeys (in the oil can finish) which were over a season old and well used. I did notice, however, on short pitch or flop shots near the green (say 10 to 30 yards), they did stop better than the vokeys - but please note, I was comparing them to used vokeys, albeit in a different finish. On the bright side, they feel awesome, look great at address and give you the confidence to hit the shot you want. (I also bought them in oil-quench, but are saving those for later). In all, they perform just as well as my Titleist spin-milled vokeys, just not that much better as I had hoped. I am about a 5 handicap, but no matter what your skill level, if you're looking for a great wedge, you can't go wrong with these. If your a Titleist guy, then it's just an aesthetic matter. Performance-wise, they are pretty much interchangeable.Read full review
i like the set up, the feel at contact, and the ability to hit off of any lie. it is heavier than my titleist wedges, not necessarily a bad thing. i would say it is a positive thing because i like to feel the head in my swing. the grip is as good as my titleist wedges but i wouldn't say they are better. if i had to choose between titliest milled faced wedges and the cleveland cg15 i would go with the cheaper of the two i could find. however, if you like a heavier club head go with the cleveland. i'm only a 11 handicap and i like to go with what looks good at address. again, i like them both equally.
I have had other Cleveland wedges before and like the balance feel they give when swinging. This 56 degree gives enough bounce from sand or fairway, but not as good in the rough. I am just an average golfer and don't expect to backspin my ball several feet on the greens, but this wedge does stop my ball much quicker than the Wilson wedge that I used before. The Cleveland grips on my other wedges seem to wear a little faster than I expected and will need to be replaced. Overall, I rate Cleveland wedges as the best that I have ever used and recommend them for all golfers.
As a long time golfer I have gone through many stages of play and equipment. I have used Cleveland wedges in the past and was extremely satisfied. Over the past ten years I had not played much and was talked into going with a second tier set of wedges. I have been taking lessons over the last 6 months from a former LPGA Tour pro and she explained to me the benefits of maximizing my ability to improve from 100 yards in. In comparing the wedges that I was using to the Cleveland CG15's it became evident very quickly the differences between the two. I have been extremely pleased with both my decision to purchase the wedges and the experience of buying through Ebay.
