Before I bought my set of Ping rapture irons, I did go through the process of having them verified by Ping as being authentic, and they were. I had been burnt buying a Scotty Cameron putter that turned out to be a fake, so you can never be too careful. Be cautious if the price is a "Buy Now" or "Best Offer" listing and the price seems out of wack with others you have seen. When it comes to Ping irons they maintain their value better than just about all the clubs out there including Calloway, and therefore expect to pay more than you would for a similiar set from another manufacturer. I am 62 years old and play to a 10 handicap and therefore I did not buy these irons to 'improve' my game but I am sure that they will. My research indicated that Ping has only tweeked the club through the G10 and G15 model. Perhaps if I was younger I would go for the lastest in their technolgy but I could only find minor differences between the Raptures and the G15 models. Certainly not significant enough to justify the price differential. These are the first set of irons I have played that have a softer shaft than regular. Some companies are calling these shafts 'senior models' while Ping has gone with the label of 'soft regular'. I had bought a Ping driver with this soft regular shaft and it corrected all the problems I was having and I am very pleased with how thses irons feel. I have bad arthritis in my hands and there is very little kick back through the shaft which I was getting with clubs that had either regular and more particularily stiff shafts. My clubs were black dot and I had them fine tuned at one of the best club makers in the Maritimes. the adjustments needed were minor. If you need large adjustments you are better to have yourself fitted at a Ping dealer and send the used clubs you bought to Ping and they will adjust them to your specs. The only sore point in this whole exercise is the fact that most iron sets do not include a sand wedge and when you are dealing with past models sometime they can be hard to find. For me a club has to promote confidence and I can't think of any other club I would rather swing than a set of Pings, even though they are two models old, I'm not looking to win the Masters, but I will take advantage of new technology and these irons fit the bill to a tee.Read full review
I like the Ping Rapture irons because of the craftsmanship, shaft choices, grips, different configurations, and resale value. I have been looking for a set of Ping Raptures for awhile for good price, They simply do not depreciate like other brands. I like they ways they sit on the ground and instill confidence. I like the simple medallions and the quality of the materials used. I also like the Ping support if you have a question. If you call or email Support and give them the serial numbers, they can tell you all the characteristics of the clubs and they will respond within 2 days usually. Ping craftsmanship has always been second to none since way back with the Karsten and Ping Eye 2 iron sets in the 70's and 80's. The swing weights have always been consistent and the lie/loft specs right on the money. I always put my irons in my Mitchell lie/loft and make the measurements. Ping specs are always accurate. The assembly and groves are perfect every time. The Raptures are exceptional the way they incorporated the thin titanium face into a club that is easy to clean, not like some others with dinky plastic. I like the different shaft choices like the high quality and consistent graphite shafts an their steel shaft choices. Ping always use high quality grips in the Golf Pride Tour Velvet and other selections. Ping uses the color codes to fit different golfer swing and body characteristics which is big plus. If you take care of the Pings, they always bring top dollar and seem to not lose value after a couple years of use. Old Ping Eye 2's still bring $200 to $300, that says a lot about the craftsmanship to endure of time. I am a Ping fan and have owned most of there different models.Read full review
6/12/09 Hello, I just purchased 4-W & U Regular Graphite/black dot/C9 weight Raptures to replace my current ping zings. I'm a 6-8 handicap. I played two rounds with these clubs and I'll tell you what I have found. These clubs hit high loft shots, exactly one club short, i.e my 5 iron would hit like a 6 iron distance etc...These were black dot with a C9 weight. Great feeling when you hit the ball solid but not much distance as claimed. I sent my clubs to ping repair to be turned to blue dot with 1/2 strong loft. Cost for blue dot & 1/2 strong is $18.00 for all clubs + plus return shipping cost!!!!The 1/2 strong will fore go loft and add distance, so instead of my 9 iron black dot iron getting only about 135yd, I hope my blue dot 9 iron 1/2 strong will now get my usual 150yds. (I have always hit my 9 iron 150 yds solid.) These are not bad clubs, but I'll give these a try when they return & post another feedback. My advice is, research the ping model first by serial number, get all info on the club specs. Ping only charges $18.00 to change color and loft but the weight change is $13.70 per club.Read full review
I was looking online for PING RAPTURE clubs when i chanced upon many sellers listing them real cheap. Like $775 for a complete set, driver, woods and all. Upon doing more research and plenty of questioning, i found them to be fakes. Firstly, if they are selling those Pings at such a low price, regardless of whether they are graphite or steel, something is already amiss. I would like to share what i found out to prevent you guys from being cheated. Fakes: Have shafts that say TFC5700 The 9 iron does not have the 3 dots below it. On the club head, the WTi logo on them are in green. The real ones are silver. The clubs look all black. They are made in china on the pretense that they are wholesale selling genuine clubs. Do not assume that since they have serial numbers that they are real. If in doubt, check out www.pinggolf.com and check the serial numbers. I'm probably gonna get some G10s for now. Hard to be fooled as they just came out in the market. China prob hasn't made the fakes yet!Read full review
Really like the clubs easy to hit. Swing right and ball will be fying at the pin. Mis-hit shots still go ok. Wished I would have bought a set with a 3 and 4 iron as the low irons are easy to hit and forgiving. Would recommend to any high to mid low player (75-120)sure they would help their game. Have the sw,pw and u wedge but a little too high of a bounce angle use my Titleist Volkeys instead.
