If you're looking to get a really good driver for cheap I would go with the Titleist 905. Titleist remains one of the best companies on the market when it comes to their woods. Again, keep in mind that Titleist is used mostly by low handicap players. If you shoot in the 90's this club is not for you, however, if you shoot in the 80's and are looking to get a cheap driver this is the way to go. When solid contact is made with this club it's a thing of beauty. A 10.5 is the way to go. Anything lower, ie. 8.5 or 9.5 will require a faster swing speed in most cases. Not your standard 460cc driver but if you don't want to spend alot money and are looking for a reliable club you can never go wrong with the Titleist 905.
Bought this to replace a Cleveland Hi-Bore. Good feel, much more consistent - longer (280-290 yds vs. 265-275) and easier to repeat or shape shots. On the other hand, the stock fujikura speeder shaft is a little too easy to overpower, leaving shots out to the right (or hooking instead of a nice draw). Not a "pineapple on a stick" oversize driver, it's still large enough to be fairly forgiving on most shots - the exception is for shots hit low on the face, those lose quite a bit of distance. Overall, I'm pretty pleased, just have to make sure I don't overswing - when I reshaft it will probably be everything I'd like.
As a devoted Titleist fan and long time Titleist player I was surprised by the performance of this stick. Trajectory was good, distance average at best and the feel was harsher than the typical feel I find in other Titleist drivers I own (admittedly not all 905s and none of them are a T model). That said, the same flex Aldila NV 65 shaft with the 9.5 loft has worked well for me in similar Titleist drivers but I was very underwhelmed by this combination. Perhaps it is simply the archer not the bow here but I have to admit that the sound and performance made me wonder about the authenticity - though the cosmetics were impeccable to the smallest detail. In any case half the fun with e-bay is trying different clubs and the price for this particular experiment was very right so I have little regret. Also, the condition was about as advertised for such a late model used club and the delivery was prompt. I will continue to be a huge Titleist disciple and will use e-bay again soon as I have found many good purchases here - golf and otherwise. (This stick however will become a gift to a needy golfer and hopefully it will end up in a better home.)Read full review
Coming off of the 975J & TM540xd both w/YS6 Shafts. I wanted to update my driving gear, and I have favored Titleist. I went with w/905T 9.5* for the price, the 400cc, shallow-faced, bore flight and the YS6 shaft. My swing can be described as a very slow take away, only 3/4 backswing with smooth acceleration coming down into impact. It is a swing that is so compact and limited, one cannot imagine that any distance can be obtained. However, I will say with the right equipment this driver not only compensated for my flawed swing, but improved my distance and flight. Lets forget the smoke up your posterior regarding the boasted yardage...Im at sea level, and it is straighter and a tad longer than my other drivers. The SOUND AT IMPACT is a "CLACK" not a ting, ping, pop or a reverb garbage can. It doesn't sound cheap or tinny. THE FLIGHT PATH...even with my swing, it bores into a mid flight tight as a string, reaching its peak, and decends its flight forward...another words, the ball does not die and drop after its peak, like the XD540. TOLORANCE of MISHITS...towards the toe still rewards me better than what I deserved. Bottom of face has cost me dearly, gots to tee it up. INTO THE WIND 10mph headwind...very little effect. I was taken by the way the ball drills into the wind with still good distance. I have read in other feedbacks that this driver is ment for those who has a swing that is consistant...I will agree with the statement...If you new into golf, you will not be able to appreciate this equipment, try Callaway. If your like me, and only get out on a course maybe once a month, but still have a swing, there is no better equalizer than this cannon. DRAWBACKS...Very Important! You cannot reshaft this driver and other 905 models in the traditional fashion. The shaft CAN be installed by someone who knows what they are doing, and I frown at Titleist for creating such a hosel setup that limits the typical average guy in doing his own reshafting. OVERALL...I made the right move to this driver. It gives me what I was looking for...Looks, Sound, Feel at Impact, Flight, Forgiveness, and Distance that makes this Bogey player feel like a Single Digit off the Tee Box. This 905T head does what it does so well with the right shaft that suits me. Thats why I favor the YS6 (Old Label) for the engine. I will miss dearly my 975J driver...she still flies better than the 540xd, but comes a tad shy of overall performance compared to the 905T...If you have reached this far into this review, then I would say that this 905T driver is for you. Thanks for your time.Read full review
I was looking for a used driver to give my nephew in WVa. He has a set of Titleist clubs that are from the 1980's and I was telling him that a new titainium driver would give him an extra 20 yards off the tee. I found this club that was in perfect condition for a small amout of money. Of course I had to try it out before giving it to him. I fell in love with it the first time I hit it. Any way I chose to keep this one and found a Titleist 905S 9.5* loft on eBay in great condition to take to him. It was a great club also so it was a tough decision on which one to give up. He tried hitting a few balls with it and he really likes the 905S also. Titleist makes a lot of great golf clubs.
