This is a 5-star bike all around with one exception--the instructions that come with it for putting it together. It comes with the most generic bike assembly instructions I have ever seen. Is that really necessary? Is it really too much to ask for a bike-specific set of instructions. This would especially be helpful since this bike is so different from others actually pictured! I am an accomplished assembler of Ikea type furniture and many other things that require assembly, but the instructions for this were pretty much the least helpful I have ever seen. That's why I gave it only 4 stars!

I was so excited to receive my new Schwinn Skyliner 700c Hybrid bicycle. The description and reviews i read before purchasing convinced me it would be a great bike at a fantastic price. After I received it, I took it to my local professional bike mechanic, who put it together for me. He informed me that it is a department store bike and what should have taken 30 minutes or less to assemble took over 2 hours. I've ridden it three times and have tried very hard to like it. But I am very disappointed because it is heavy, sluggish and doesn't handle very well. It certainly doesn't live up to its description on ebay or the rave reviews it got.

Normally I would prefer to test ride a bike before buying, but this was a great deal so I decided to go for it anyway. After a few rides I can say this is a practical, comfortable, smooth riding bike that is well worth the under $200 price tag, plus they shipped this thing, a 30 pound package from CA to NY for free. Amazing! Basically this bike was sold at Target for double the price a few years ago, and I guess they had to unload old stock to make room for new models. The box had 'Target‘ printed on it. Pros: - It is lighter than I expected. It is not light as a feather, but it looks heavier than it is. - Comfortable ride. Good for city riding or light off-roading. The seatpost and front shock absorbers really help. - I like the handlebar quick release adjuster. Very easy to adjust it a few times until I found the best setting. - Includes front and rear lights. Rear light is good and has constant on, or flashing modes. Cons: - Front light is a little junky. It’s plastic and hard to open the battery compartment. Also, it's a spotlight. Better than nothing, but bikes should have a wide floodlight, not a spot. Not a big deal. If you intend to ride at night a lot, invest in a new front light. - Not super easy to set up. Not amazingly difficult like IKEA furniture, but I think better instructions with larger diagrams would help. The instruction booklet is not model specific, it includes generic instructions for multiple types of bikes. - The seat is a little stiff. Probably needs to be broken in, but it's a lot more comfortable than most bike seats, which are torturous in my experience. - There are no mounts for a water bottle holder. I guess just put your water bottle in the bar bag. This bike hits the spot for me since I live in the city. Just beefy enough to handle rough pavement and curbs, but also lightweight if you need to carry it upstairs, etc. One thing I should mention is the size. It's hard to find sizing charts for this bike. It was actually bigger than I expected. I am 5' 7' and that is just barely enough to fit this bike. I think this bike would be too big for anyone shorter than 5' 6". Also, Youtube was a huge help in fixing minor problems. After setting up this bike, the brake pads were rubbing against the rims, and the gear shifting was a little wonky. There are many great videos on youtube that helped me fix these issues and also taught me the basics of adjusting/tuning up a bicycle. I'm surprised a well known company like Scwhinn does not have their own how-to videos on youtube. Maybe they do but I haven’t seen any. There's a video channel on Youtube called Art's Cyclery that has a lot of great how-to videos for adjusting brakes and fine tuning the gears which helped me fix the minor issues I had after assembling the bike.Read full review

I just ordered the bike and it arrived two days before the delivery day, which was really fast. The box was completely sealed, like if it just came from the factory. I noticed that the listed weight of the bike is like 43 pounds but it's more like 20 pounds or less. The frame is aluminum or mostly aluminum. The assembly instructions are very general to most Schwinn "comfort" bikes but this bike was different. To attach and tighten the handlebars, you have to slide down, then forcefully lift the bottom of the plastic cover at the joint where the handlebars meet the stem. That's the only way to get your hex wrench in there to tighten it. Otherwise you end up cutting a wrench to make it fit into a small gap at the joint. This wasn't explained clearly in the book, which is why another reviewer cut an Allen wrench. All other parts went on smoothly. I did get the bag but I'm concerned about leaving it on the bike unattended, as it is fastened with 3 strips of Velcro. It's designed to be easily removed I guess, even by a thief. It is a nice-looking bag, and I'll figure out how to permanently attach it to the bike. I have easily spent $100 buying fenders, lights, and a storage bag before, but they are all included with this bike. It's a bonus that made me happy! When I rode the bike, I realized that it really is a comfort bike and won't go that fast. The chainring is like the "medium" or "middle" one on an 18 or 21 - speed bike. No fast riding here! All in all it's a very good purchase, as it comes with a few extras that could end up costing an extra $80-100. It looks really great, too!Read full review
