Superb synthesizer, the ONLY FM synthesizer ever produced with Formants. Formants are used for modeling instruments with resonating cavities, like a Violin, Bassoon, acoustic Guitar, the human voice. These synths are rare and hard to find. If you know what the synth is, then you know what I'm talking about. There is a shareware editor for this synth and a commercial one as well, which was what the synth really needed when it came out back in '98. Without an editor, it's too hard to program. It's not for the feint of heart though, the synth is more difficult to master than most synths. I would recommend you start with something simpler, then work up to it. There are several DX7 styled VST's you could start on. Decide whether FM (Frequency Modulation) is your cup of tea first, then venture into formants which is where this synth shines. It's taken me about two months to get my head wrapped around FM and now I'm delving into the formants on this beast. If you like a challenge, jump in! I did!Read full review

Yamaha DX1 is a legend and extremely rare synthesizer. Only 140 were made between 1983 to 1984 with a price tag of $13,900.00 new. These synthesizer is astonishing to look at and play. They keys are made of real wood and the programming display is beautiful along with the built-in sounds that you can modify over and over to perfection. The average price for DX1 today is $10,000.00 and up, it is not cheap synth, it is built like a Roles Royce in quality. I own one of these and would never think of selling it. Anyway it is a wonderful synthesizer to play and never gets boring.
