The desktop version is superb. out of the box i kept on asking myself why does it sound so midrangey!? i've been used to such full range synths but after messing with it. i found it doesn't need much to get it to sit right in the mix. it has it's place and it can make some of the most heavenly sounds. it's truly its own thing.. has that techy crunch, that lush, vastness of analog and it has enough parameters and hits upon enough strange sounds, that you'll never get bored. couple it with third party editing software and it's a great workhorse synth. it's as beautiful as it is tough. this is DSI's bid to claim their place in the market and it is obvious why it was a huge success. pro's: super midi'd out. you know with DSI every midi spec is going to be outlined down to the wire.. in fact the manual is for the most part, basically a midi implementation chart. and the other half of the manual is "just play with it." this is a company that really loves their synths. i think most american companies there's a deep passion for their electronic instruments.. that's not to say other companies don't have equal passion, but companies like DSI, Moog and Mackie you can really feel the love in their products. the cons are: it only has a slight learning curve, since matrix style programming always takes some getting used to per synth. though the knobs are laid out pretty intuitively. getting from one function to another is basically all laid out on the face but some of the deeper functions are hidden. compared to other synths.. there's really no other comparison. the build is unique because the sequencer engine is basically what the machine is all about. not many other synths have that other than the Elektron A4 which has different synthesis and sound altogether.Read full review
In the early 80s, I used 3 sequential Circuits Pro-Ones, also developed by Dave Smith, to create a number of electronic music albums that are still highly regarded today. For my current work, I now use 3 of these synths because they are analog and basically like my old Pro Ones. I love the knobs with the ability to make changes in real time without hunting thru menus. I use the arpeggiators a lot to create new patterns on the fly. If you would like to learn more visit jdemmanuel.com.
Analog/digital,monophonic but able to record different melodies(but at the same timing) for the 4 selectable oscillators at hand and many possibilities for routings with three exploitable envelopes and four LFOs; as well as a very interesting delay effect ...plenty of Mod sources and destinations, etc.

And matrix base layout for sale on creation and modulation. It seems as though almost any component to be a modulator or a target modulation. The hard part is pulling yourself away from it.

Has a ton of amazing sounds to offer a huge range of musicians. (as for genre's go). I feel in love with this instrument as soon as I turned it on and started messing around with all the presets and knobs. It is going to be a great addition to my future electronic dance music productions! Thank you DAVE SMITH and TEAM!
