What's great about this book is the combination of clear language and photography concerning the various elements of fly tying. Not just the simple stuff either but this book is an all inclusive book covering every aspect of placing thread, fur, hair, feathers and synthetics onto a hook for fly fishing. Strongly recommend it for any beginning fly tier as well as anyone who wants to brush up on their methods.

This is a great book to complement the Beginners Guide from the same authors. The Reference has just about any technique you would use. The writing is clear, the pictures work and the organization is perfect. I'm glad I got it and recommend it to any flytier.
I bought this book for my son as a gift as I don't tie flies anymore and he does all the fly tying for us. He said it's an excellent help book. It was pricey but it will be informative for years to come.

Jim and Ted wrote and illustrated THE bible for fly tiers. 444 pages of detailed step by step examples for more techniques than you can use in a lifetime. I keep it on my tying bench and refer to it often. A useful tool and will aid in tying better flies. A must have for any serious fly tier. Note: this is a technique refrence and not a fly recipie book.
Super book, tons of content and photos.
