I bought this knife to carry as part of my hiking kit, and have tested it extensively by using it to make kindling, batoning it to chop larger pieces of wood, and even used it to fell 5'' pine trees. It has performed remarkably well, and has even out performed my $90 Gerber bushcraft knife. This is a great knife for good price.

Overall this is one fantastic woodsman knife in my honest opinion. Only one area I wish was different and that would be having a 90-degree spine to strike a ferrocerium rod. Though, a 90-degree spine can easily be obtained with a little manual work. The blade has a fantastic profile height that makes it exceptionally proficient in wood carving. The grip feels warm and comfortable to the touch. The steal overall is very good. For the low dollar amount, it has to be the best bang for the buck for a belt knife. Being the main carry or a secondary carry this knife is a no-brainer. The Mora Companion HD is a knife I highly recommend, a must for everyone.

This knife rocks, especially for the price. You can't go wrong and will more than likely be very pleased if you've never owned a Morakniv. I pickle my shinny Mora blades in hot vinegar to a grayish mottled etched pattern which I think looks very nice and prevents premature corrosion to some degree. Love this knife.

An improvement on the old companion. The handle is easier to grip, and the blade has been beefed up. Best bang for the buck in woodcrafting knives--still!

Mora Companion Heavy Duty in Carbon Steel is an excellent knife. Being carbon steel, it can rust if not oiled and left wet. It can discolor if cutting things that are acidic, which may look like dark marks, but that will create patina. Forcing a patina using vinegar or cola, which has phosphoric acid will help give the carbon steel, a nice dark color and give the knife some rust resistance along with some oil.
