Well built, versatile, does the job.
This One Way Bowl Steady is well built and does the job, I have it mounted on my lathe , and using it to support the end of a vase that I am turning out of burlwood, The wood is very dense and is somewhat out of balance. The Bowl Steady keeps the vase from flying off the lathe , which it did before I could support the open end. The base is drilled and tapped in different positions on the base so you can adjust it to whatever size project you are working with. It does not come with a mounting clamp as all lathes are not the same. Just measure the bed opening and you can get a clamp from a number of sources. The bed of my lathe has a 1 1/2 inch gap. I ordered the clamp after I got the Bowl Steady but it didn't take long to get it. As I said it is well built with a heavy base and upper ... The product works, but the befit is out weighed by the fact the unit needs to be removed or put aside each time a new bowl is started. It is not hard to do this, but it is time consuming. And that time consuming slows down production. The product is a good one, but there is a need to quickly move it out of the way or pop it on and off quickly would make it perfect for large lots of bowl production. For one or two bowls the product is ideal, but then again for one or two bowl production one can simply hold the edge with a gloved hand.
