I bought this phone for my teenage daughter as a Christmas gift. It is only her second phone and her first with a touchscreen. As a father on a budget, I have opted to use gophones for both of my daughters and really couldn't afford to buy either of them the phone they really wanted. I figured this looked like a decent compromise. The phone has been easy for her to use and she says that she loves it. Her only real complaint is the battery life. She says that it is very short and she does not spend much time surfing the net on it. She is a texter and loves the keyboard. The phone's been very durable and seems to be holding up to her abuse very well. If you can't afford to buy an S3 or S4 for your child, this phone is the perfect compromise. Its a great value for all that's included. I would buy an additional battery if your child does not have access to a charger all day though. I would recommend this phone for teens for sure.Read full review
I bought this phone because I wanted something up to date and affordable. I love that I can use this phone with ease, There are many apps to choose from, I can access the internet almost anywhere. It helps me stay on top of things whether it is checking my email on the go or keeping up with a social site. I have had two of these phones. Here is the biggest issue I have had with this phone.. The battery life is very short. I can fully charge the phone, Turn off everything, and go to sleep for the night when it is fully charged, By the time I wake up the battery is almost dead and it needs to be charged again. This also happens when letting the phone charge through the night. I'll wake up with a fully charged battery and 4 to 5 hours after heavy use it needs to be charged again. If I barely use it it could last 6 or 7 hours maybe? But that is only if I make no calls, Send no texts, and I don't use the internet. The battery life is the biggest problem. I haven't had any other issues. All around I love this phone, I just wish the battery life was longer. I have tried apps to conserve the battery, Adjusted my display settings, Internet settings, Ect. Nothing has really fixed the problem. The first phone that I owned was identical but I accidentally dropped it one time, the screen went black, and it never worked again. So far with my second one it has proven durable.Read full review
Wow. I have to have to phone with a slideout manual keyboard. My fingers are just too big to use an iPhone. Now I know that the new iPhone's have Siri, and you can just speak your text messages. But I like having a spare battery for my phone. I also like having a memory card. All the things you can't get with an iPhone. So the Android phones are my favorite which is perfect for my T-Mobile service as it's by far the least expensive. They offer value plans and classic plans. Classic plans are like At&t, Verizon and Sprint. Everyone gets the same rate. But if you use your own phone on T-Mobile and not take a free phone then instead of getting the discount on the phone you get $20.00 of the plan every month. For a 2 year contract that's $480.00. That will buy you a pretty nice phone, plus you keep on getting the $20.00 off after the 2 years. With T-Mobile's new unlimited 4G plan Sprint will have to change their commercials. All of T-Mobile's plans are unlimited, they just slow down to 2G speed after 2 GB, 5 GB, 10 GB, etc. But the new unlimited 4G plan is $69.99/month. Sprint's is $99.99 but there's a $10.00 smartphone charge. That $69.99/month is for the value plan. If you get a free Android phone it's $89.99/month. That's still $20.00/month less then Sprint. The best thing about AT&T and T-Mobile is that they're GSM & can be used anywhere in the world. You can also use phones from either co. At&t had this Samsung Galaxy Appeal as a prepaid Go Phone that has every feature a contract phone has. It has the slideout keyboard, Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, and even has the mobile hotspot feature. I have a wifi only iPad. It was much less expensive then one with the 4G. This way I touch 1 button on my phone and the mobile hotspot feature allows me to run any device through my phone. And with GSM you can use the data and voice at the same time. So AT&T was selling this Samsung phone for $149.99 plus tax, would have cost me $158.99. Still a great price for a full featured quality brand Android phone. But they're on eBay for $135.00 with free shipping. Just insert your SIM card and you're done. What a great price and it's very light and slim even with the manual keyboard. For someone who's still under contract or doesn't want a contract and wants to use it as a prepaid phone I can honestly say that it has every feature that I need and at this price would rather not have to renew my contract. A great phone for the price.Read full review
This phone was great right out of the box! Easy to use, love the slider option and the fact that you can use on-screen keyboard if you don't want to open it, seven home screens, lots of nifty little gadgets and doodads already installed. The only drawback I found so far was the charger did not fit properly and it wouldn't charge. Luckily I have a different charger that works. The one that came with, which was an actual Samsung charger, was loose and you have to lay the cord over something and let the weight of the phone make the loose connection tight. Not a big enough drawback to make it not worth getting this phone. The phone is great!
After it took me three days to figure out how to transfer my data to this phone, I am finally liking it but not as much as I thought I would. I had a Blackberry Torch 9800 and it's RIDICULES how much one has to go through to get data transferred. I also DO NOT like the idea of being FORCED to use Google to transfer my contacts and calendar, AND being FORCED to keep synced with same. And when you use the Google app, it automatically signs you into Google chat which I do not nor will I use. I finally figured out how to get rid of that. I tried and tried to get my contacts and calendar from my Windows backup, to no avail. The manual is useless as well on how to transfer and use some apps. I would be 100% satisfied with this phone if it had the capability for data to be transferred through a USB from my PC. The app "Wondershare" is useless unless you PAY for it and it's 2014, NO ONE should have to pay for data transfer between a phone and PC. When using the "free" version, you can transfer a whopping FIVE contacts and very little else! So what, it's not one of the "higher end" Smart Phones, it is in fact a Smart Phone and should have more capabilities than it does. First and foremost, the biggest issue is transferring data and I have yet to find a way to transfer from my PC to the phone with a USB. I had to transfer all my pictures and music through the SD card which I did not have backed up to in my Blackberry, so it was a huge hassle. Overall if I knew what I know now, I would have chosen another phone.Read full review
