Very smooth control knobs with a good range of adjustment. Able to use with mics and also line inputs, so quite versital too. Driver installation was a breeze on Windows 7

Apparently this is a discontinued unit that is not supported beyond Windows 8.1,y system is Win10. That aside it is well made and has a good array of features. Just wish it could've worked for me...

For the cost, this is an excellent interface for both musicians and other media artists needing a quality audio monitoring/recording solution. If you are making serious music recordings, you might consider something a little higher up the performance food chain. For light music and voiceover monitoring and recording, the Mobile Pre is your choice. Perhaps its best feature is power and signal come from a single USB cable. No Wall Wart transformer needed! Works well in my laptop based Final Cut system...
I plugged my budget knockoff guitar into the left channel and my budget condenser into the 2nd channel XLR input. The microphone of course picked up the guitar from the room, despite my homemade deflection screen. Channel 1, with the guitar plugged in direct however, had crystal clear audio with no crosstalk and a much fuller tone than the soundcard in my aging computer. I normalized the "silent sections" to see how much digital noise or artifacts were present and it was well below acceptable ranges for just about any recording environment without having to bandpass anything. I did struggle to get a good microphone level and sound out of this preamp using the phantom power rear XLR inputs. Having only 2 LED's in a meter is not optimal but it's digital, so you just need to avoid clipping and can correct volume pretty significantly before the noise floor becomes noticeable. With some fiddling and some acoustic foam I was able to get an amazing sound eventually out of the XLR inputs as well. I just wish there was a power button as I hate to unplug the cable because of where I have it set up now. Maybe I will make some real estate available on my desktop for a better setup. It communicates fine with all my other drivers and programs and I never bothered to install a driver or anything. Unless you need more inputs (recording drums or something). This is the best value in gear I have come across in a decade. I have many of M-Audio's product line and have never had a problem. This interface is no different, solid build and crispy clean sound. My cheap guitar through this box into some free guitar amps and cab convolutions and I have a guitar recording sound that would have have cost me thousands back in the day.Read full review
This is one GREAT little box! It provides such great audio from our condenser microphones. It is used in a small home studio. This is the second M-Audio box that we own, which allows for even more dexterity. Our recordings feature a Steinway Grand, Model XR, which is a reproducing player piano. Also performers who desire to capture their keyboard skills on CD.
