These are the gateway to the SPECTOR Brand. They make a cheaper model (Performer) but the Legands have active Electronics to support the EMG HZ pick ups, (Some have SSD designed by EMG) and are the one's you want to buy first. Well built basses, solid necks (Not tree trunks but not Ibanez wafer thin) that require little truss rod turning, nice wood's under clears and solid hardware make for a beautiful instrument. They bring that classic SPECTOR TONE that is second to none....A LEGEND if you will.... I run mine with low action and through a Markbass set up and can get everything from REX tone (Pantera) to big round full country sounds. Bolt on neck still has tons of sustain.. I love having people come up to me at shows and rave about my tone...SPECTOR baby! Be prepared..I said its a Gateway....You WILL want other ones once you buy one of these! I have 3 now. Added a NS-95 and a NS-2000 neck thru's to my arsenal....Yes..The Legend is still part of that threesome! Rock on \m/ Read full review

I purchased this bass about 7 years ago and it's been my go to 5 string since. So far I've been very happy and it serves we well in all the music styles I play. The longer scale lets me down tune without flop and it sound really tight. The Legend Classic 5 is the real sleeper on the Spector line I guess live to try and don't confuse with the entry level performer series . If you get a chance to grab one you won't regret it. Mine is the slate grey the finish that looks almost black on dim lights and I'm always getting compliments on it. Mine has the EMG HZ pickups that I find better in tone that the cheaper SSD pickups I tried on the newer versions at Sam Ash that now come standard on the uber cheap performer series. I think they are no longer made with the EMG HZ I got. I guess Spector didn't want to keep paying royalties to EMG for their name and had the new pickups designed by EMG but built in china or something. For the tone, craftsmanship, affordability and looks this bass get my 5 stars.Read full review

The EMG pick ups make it very responsive to different overdrives and modulation effects, with a super thick low end response. The neckboard is easy to maneuver around, and it is very versatile. I bought it as a back-up bass for my Warwick Thumb, and it will get recording time for low-end oriented death metal as well for sure!

Great tone, not a scratch on it. Such a great deal, thanks! There is just a little fret buzz however nothing that a tune up won't take care off.
