I was looking for a rack mixer with pan, gain and send for my synth/keyboard control center, I can easily preview and balance the levels for my synths, use 2 auxes for effects (one stereo aux return though, but you can use stereo tracks for that). Preamps are OK for live though I use line level mostly. Having insert on mono tracks was crucial for me, as I route those to my patchbay. Headphone output is noisy, but it’s just for the preview. Gain/trim knobs are also a bit noisy and distortion is harsh as you get closer to the headroom ceiling. I chose Alesis Multimix against Behringer RX1202 FX because I don’t want to use built-in effects. Hope this Alesis will not fail me

Well, after buying and selling a couple of Behringer mixers I finally bought this one. ( A great deal at Bling ) I love it. No unwanted noises that sometimes creep out of nowhere. Nice effects when I want them. I'm mostly recording Guitar, Bass, and Vocals. This mixer is perfect for the Home studio newbie that is thinking about expanding to the next level. More XLR inputs and EQ to start dialing in your sound. Oh and the cubaseLE software was a surprise, I use it in combo with my digital recorder.

Great mixer for live use. However,, the software was not included and after downloading the latest software from the alesis website and reading all the blogs on installation, I was unable to get it to work. So it’s great for live use but don’t expect to be able to record via the usb output to your computer. This is apparently common with this series as well as the new ones which replaced it. So I would not recommend buying if your intent is to record on the computer with it.
