I bought the UX2 so I could record my bass, guitar, and theremin through it. It works great! The signal is much more controllable and stable as opposed to plugging directly into my Mac. I use Propellerhead Reason 5.0 + Record 1.5 and Record picked the Toneport up right away as the audio in/out source. I did of course download the driver from Line6's website beforehand.**** (For clarification sake, I got the 1st generation UX2 that has the red face. I believe the only difference is the software it comes with, which I don't use since I'm using Record to do all the amp modeling and effects.) I can't really find anything wrong with the UX2, it's really intuitive to use and suits my needs perfectly.**** I haven't used other audio/recording interfaces so I can't compare anything but this one seems like a great value! Very affordable compared to the next ones in line.**** To recap for others, I'm using Mac OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and Propellerhead Reason/Record. Also, I ran out of USB ports on my mac (comes with 2) because I usually run a MIDI keyboard, the Toneport, and the Ignition Key (copyright protection thing from Propellerhead). I ran to the store (drove, rather) and got a *powered* USB hub. It is a Belkin 4 port powered USB hub. I plugged the Toneport and the Ignition Key into it and it worked perfectly, so, while I can't speak for every situation, the Toneport seems to work perfectly (without any noticeable latency) running through the *powered* USB hub. Powered is important because it is usually powered by the computer, so if it's not plugged directly into the computer's native USB ports, it needs external power. Anywho, it works great.Read full review
As a recording artist I have had to really cut costs in order to continue writing and producing. Not all recording artists get discovered right away if ever. That being said most of us never make a dime and spend thousands building our dreams. Song ideas come at the most unplanned inopportune times so it is so important to have easy to use tools available when you need them. This and all the newer Line 6 product take it home. I have this and the x3 live with the UX2 and my laptop along with the free suite of tools Line 6 offers you can get all your sounds down quickly and easily. I have been doing this for a long time and have used Alesis, MBox, and even Digidesign with all types of software. This is the first and only real plug and play device I have ever owned. I love the peak meters and the simplicity of the product. It works with every software package i have and i have many. Thank you Ebay and Thank you Line6!Read full review
THIS IS A GREAT INTERFACE! I purchased my Line 6 TonePort UX2 Recording Interface used on ebay and I can't say enough good about it! I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in getting into home recording. It's made of plastic so it does have a light weight feel,I have heard this described as "cheap" or "junky",but it's an interface not a baseball bat! The software that comes with a new unit includes PODfarm which is a great modeling software featuring many effects, amps and cabinets to have fun with. If you purchase a used UX2 and it does not have the software with it Line 6 will allow you to download PODfarm free from their website. You will need a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation)software such as Sonar, Ableton Live or Pro tools. If you buy a new unit a DAW is included. If you buy a used UX2 with software you will most likely NOT be able to use the DAW software as it is licensed to the original purchaser and requires a license key to use. Some of the DAW companies offer a free limited trial version which is what is included when you buy a new unit. Line 6 is also very good about letting people who have bought their equipment used register it with them as the new owner, just make sure the prior owner removed it from his Line 6 equipment list. I hope you find this information helpful, when I was in the market for mine this information would have been a great help to me. Bottom line is buy this thing! You will love it and wonder why you didn't already have one.Read full review
This is a great little recording machine! My only complaint is that it comes with software that is outdated (at least for a Mac). I almost sent the unit back. I discussed my problem with a friend and he suggested that the drivers were outdated and I should download a newer version of the software. I looked on the Line 6 forums and this is a KNOWN problem and an easy fix. So if you buy this be prepared to do some online downloading before you can get it to work. Also, the unit is not very solid. It is made of cheap plastic and I doubt it will be able to withstand any drops. You will have to handle it carefully. That being said, the pod farm is awesome and I am able to get my guitar sounding great without all of the effort of running microphones, lines, and playing with amps all day long. It's very portable and a great value for the money.Read full review
I am so glad to finally have this piece of gear! The UX2 with the dual instrument inputs and 2 mic inputs is the perfect answer for my home studio, and a great for podcasts, YouTube videos. My one regret is that I waited this long to get one.
