Currently I am collecting all types of 807 Tubes to use in an exceptional 6L6 Vacuum Tube Audio Amplifier. The Amp will undergo Socket change-outs to use the 807 Tube instead of 6L6. The 807 Tube is the best 6L6 Tube you will ever put in a Socket. I knew National Union Tubes, in general were very good, but I had not tested any NU 807 Tubes yet. USA made National Union Vacuum Tubes are exceptional --- especially if you can find strong running brand new ones, or NOS = New Old Stock. This 807 Tube was an especially old Black Plate, which sounds incredible. Black Plates are more capable Tubes --- designed for Military or Industrial applications, were the Tube might be stressed to its limits. This 807 has deep focused Bass, (much more than any 6L6 Metal or 6L6G Tube), excellent mid-range Texture and crystal high Frequencies. There are all kinds and types of 807 Tubes but they are not created equally! The only drawback here is that old WWII or 1950s 807 Tubes can be a bit pricey. However, they last forever though, and sound incredible. Fortunately 807 Tubes are plentiful and prices are all over the map. In this Amplifier experiment, virtually all of the 807 Tubes tested ran a lot cooler than their 6L6 Metal or 6L6G counterparts. If they can be fitted into 6L6GC Amplifiers, they will kick butt on 6L6GC Tubes. Operating temperatures, in all areas of the Tubes were checked with an Infrared Thermo Scanner. I submit that the 807 Tubes are not being taxed in this application and will last even longer. 807 Tubes are capable of Anode Voltages up to around 750 Volts. In this Amplifier, the Anode Voltages are around 280 to 320 Volts. National Union 807 Tubes will not disappoint.Read full review
