I love this radio so far. One of my favorite things about it is the ease of it to program. Just read the manual and you're in. The other plus is the memory. Outstanding. 1000 channels? That's great! And you can group those 1000 into smaller groups. Love that. Only thing is the battery runs out a bit soon for my liking. So, I bought a couple of back ups (a good thing to have anyway) and now I have PLENTY of juice. Over all, I'm quite pleased.

This is a backup for the FT-60R I bought new about a year ago from a dealer. I rated the used ebay radio four stars because it was used. The FT-60R radio itself rates five stars, read on. The ebay unit arrived in good condition with battery, rubber ducky antenna and wall wart charger. The battery is okay but has reduced life as I would expect for a used battery. The radio works fine, is cosmetically very good and everything about it is very good. I especially like the FT-60R radio for the very wide receive range 108 - 999MHz without the cell phone frequencies (of course). The radio is compact, very durable(die cast case) light weight for such excellent frequency coverage. You must be a licensed HAM radio operator to transmit with this radio, which I am. An unlicensed person could get much enjoyment from this radio, but being able to talk to the people you can listen to is extra special. If someone only wanted to listen and not get their HAM license, they should look at a scanner. They are fun too. I think the volume and squelch controls should have been reversed in position as the volume control is small and in-between the antenna and squelch control. Sometimes the squelch gets moved while adjusting the volume. When using a speaker mike or other plug-in device I must use a heavy rubber band to keep the right-angle plug inserted. If the plug comes out just a little the radio goes into transmit. The FT-60R is so very much better than the Baofeng and many other dual-band hand-held radios I've encountered because of ease of programming, wide frequency coverage, light weight and operability. I have recommended the FT-60R to several friends and other HAMs. It is an excellent radio that sometimes is offered at a sale price - even better.Read full review
This radio is very easy to program in the field. It is packed with great features. I bought my first on in 2004. It has lasted through all kinds of abuse all theses years. I love this radio so much I just bought another one. I have nothing bad to say about this radio

Top notch build quality. Knobs, buttons, jacks, rubber pieces, battery retention are smooth and precise. Use a piece of phone screen protector because this will likely be dropped in a backpack or bag with other equipment which can easily scratch the screen. As with practically every HT, the included antenna needs to be swapped out. I found an Icom FA-1443B buried in the closet and the RX/TX improved significantly. Mine came with an AC adapter which charges the battery while loaded in the radio. You -can- listen and charge simultaneously. The battery is NiMH, takes many hours to charge (~10 with no indication if charging is complete) and lasts about three days in RX only. It can be swapped out for the quicker charging LI-ION option (FNB-V126LI-UNI with VAC-UNI-B charger) in which you'll get about two more days before needing to recharge. Get one to learn the ropes. Then get a VX-3R for the expanded bandwidth in a smaller package. Then get an FT-817ND to make contact several hundred miles away before delving into the $1k+ range.Read full review

The photographs really don't show much. The board is complete with the display. If you have a bad board, just pull it out and pop in one of these and you have a new radio. The price is just OK since you can get a good complete used FT-60R now for under $100. If you have lots of accessories and the case is in good shape, then this works fine. It's identical to the factory unit as is described in the ad. Nothing complicated to do the switch - a couple of nuts and a half a dozen screws.
