The Kenwood TS820S is one beautiful rig and I have always wanted one. When they first came out in the late 70's, it was $5000 new. It is big, heavy & built like a tank. It has no menus to dig thru, no hidden features,,everything is right there on the front panel, exactly where it's supposed to be. Needless to say, this unit appears to have not been in regular use in quite some time. NP,, After I got it & gave it a quick internal visiual inspection, I plugged it up to my antenna and with a flip of the switch this old rig roared back to life. However after multiple attempts to tune the old girl up, the best she would do was 60 watts. After a good tune up this girl should be doing 100+ watts. I am super happy to say the least for my purchase and will be sending it to a tech for a tune up. Old rigs like these are quite robust & can take quite a bit of abuse, I'd advise anyone looking for a hybrid Kenwood to look for a nice survivor like this one. LOADS of infomation regarding them are available on the internet. The matching components that go along with these rigs include Speaker,VFO,tuner, station monitor, etc. and it makes my shack or anyone else's look top notch. These rigs are getting old. They made millions of them however & parts ARE out there to get them fixed. You might have to dig on the internet for them but they're out there. You could build a complete rig from eBay like I have. They're old tech, so don't be expecting DSP quality from a XTAL filter. Once I get this one back from my tech,, I expect to get decades of service out of it. They're just that well built. If you find one on Ebay and you have never experienced one,, buy it,, you will not be disappointed.Read full review
