This unit I would greatly recommend to all the people out there, that looking too get there lawn looking like a professional cut for a little bit of a small investment, I had a yard that was wasn’t edged up in 10yrs very overgrown to the point I thought to my self this going take me like two days to knock out a 800sq front yard. It only took me maybe a goo hr at the most, the unit is kinda setup for a right handed person so it’s kinda Awkward working with it if u are left handed person like my self so it will take a little bit of getting use to it after a while here’s some pictures I wanted for u all to check out as well too. The plastic connection block that connects the tubing from the gas tank to the carburetor had broken.The block alone cost more than the carburetor kit, which included the connection block. After purchasing and installing the kit I noticed that my Echo weed trimmer ran better than it did with the old carburetor. Still running great weeks later. Much cheaper than factory parts!!!

I am writing this review because I do not want others to base their decisions on the five year “warranty” that comes with an Echo product or waste their time and hard earned money as I have recently experienced. On July 14th, 2013 I became a proud owner of an Echo PE-225 edger. I thought that I was getting a commercial grade product with an industry leading five year consumer warranty. Over the past few years, I performed the regular prescribed maintenance and only used ethanol-free gas and Echo two stroke oil. Approximately three months ago, I went into my garage and noticed a large puddle of fuel underneath my Echo PE-225 edger. I cleaned up the fuel mess in my garage and realized the entire fuel tank from my edger had drained onto the floor. I thought to myself, maybe there is a crack in the hose and it needs to be replaced. I went to my local Home Depot and bought the Echo branded “You Can” fuel system kit for $16.34. The kit included the fuel filter, fuel lines, grommet, gasket, fuel tank vent and purge bulb. I installed all of the components except the purge bulb because my existing purge bulb was still in great shape. I filled the tank with fuel, operated the edger for about 15 minutes around my house and then left it in the driveway. I proceeded to mow the yard and when I came back there was a massive puddle of fuel sitting underneath my edger and the tank was nearly empty. It seems that every time I left fuel in my edger, the fuel would syphon right out of the tank onto the floor. After not having any luck with the Echo fuel repair kit from Home Depot, I decided that I needed to have a professional take a look at it. I checked my records and noticed that my edger was still under warranty. AWESOME! I called Echo to see what was required for me to get warranty work done and they said that I needed to take it in to my local authorized Echo repair center. Fortunately there was a shop five minutes from my house. I took the edger into the shop and they said they would take a look at it and get back with me when it was ready for pickup. A week later they called me back and told me that it wasn’t covered under warranty because it was a fuel related component. They said if I wanted to get it repaired out of pocket that it would be $75. WHAT???? The authorized repair center told me that Echo usually doesn’t cover stuff that has to do with fuel because they don’t know what kind of fuel I used in it. Since it was still under warranty, I did not want to pay to have it repaired. In addition, when I got to the shop, they told me that I still needed to pay $27.50 for the diagnostics since Echo wasn’t covering the bill. I was so frustrated because I had already spent over $43 and still didn’t have an edger that didn’t leak all over my garage. I called Echo’s corporate line and they said that they have no control over warranty decisions. They told me that the “distributor” makes the decision to repair the unit. I asked if I could get the phone number for the distributor and they said that they do not share that information. Echo advised me to go to a different repair center to see if I could have any better luck somewhere else. I THINK NOT! I am not going to throw any more money at this edger on diagnostic fees because of declined warranties. As a last ditch effort, I took my edger to Home Depot and asked to speak with a manager. I explained my situation to the store manager and they told me that they would take care of it for me. They told me to take my edger to the tool rental center and they would send it off to get repaired. I brought it to the tool rental center and they said I had to pay a $27 deposit in case Echo doesn’t cover the warranty. I asked the tool rental clerk to be honest with me as I have gone down this path before and asked if it is common for Echo to decline warranty work. The sales clerk told me, unfortunately I see this a lot. I said that it seems that Echo does not stand behind their product and the tool rental clerk agreed. The clerk even told me that they had gone through the same issue of getting warranty work declined. I have a STIHL string strimmer that I purchased two years prior to my Echo, used the same fuel and it is still running strong and it doesn’t leak all over my garage creating a potential fire hazards. To summarize, the Echo “5 Year Warranty” is only good if you don’t put fuel in it, otherwise the warranty is useless. DO NOT BASE YOUR DECISION ON THE FIVE YEAR WARRANTY!Read full review

This is a good trimmer. I have an 15+ year old Black & Decker electric trimmer with similar blade but no wheel. It pretty much does the same as the Echo for less. The Echo is convenient as a gas powered unit. It seems we’ll build but it is expensive for what it does. I do like it but doubt I’ll buy again.
