The only book you really need to own.
Alla Prima is a wonderful tutorial written by one of the greatest artist of our time Richard Schmid. It is my favorite book in my library. I love the pictures and the lessons. Any one interested in alla prima painting should have this book on their shelf. Or better yet in their paint tote or supplies to refer to frequently. The instruction is excellent for regular painting also. Wouldn't be with out it, was worth every penny. If I were allowed to own only one book this would be it. Contents contain the following (1) Good Ideas and Free Advice (2) Direct Painting (3) Starting (4) Drawing (5) Values (6) Edges (7) Color and Light (8) Composition (9) Technique (10) The Magic. All he knew about painting. I am so blessed to have acquired this book. Enjoy

Over priced
Given all the reviews and hype I was expecting this book to be much better. Yes, the artist is beyond excellent, his approach very detailed and expressive. I admire and like his work very much but found myself wanting more guidance, technique, and tips. A beautiful coffee table book but there are much better instructional books available.
