The History of Middle-Earth books are in-depth examinations of the process of creating the Lord of the Rings books and not really 'stories'. They do contain stories, songs, poems etc. that were referenced in Tolkien's novels but are not intended for the casual fan. If, however, you have any interest in the 'nuts and bolts' of Middle-Earth or of creating any kind of well-crafted written work the 12 book series is fascinating. "The Peoples of Middle-Earth" is the last in the series but the books don't have to be read in any particular order as long as the reader has a good grasp of the "Lord of the Rings" saga.
I wish it would just go on and on....I love Tolkien & everything Middle-earth. This is a fascinating look at more of JRRT's notes as gathered by his son Christopher. Any Tolkien fan would want this and all 12 books in this set. Excellent book!
Great book for Tolkien fans.
