Great reels, easy to clean, service, use and fix ( which they usually dont brake). At $29.95 delivered makes it even better. Sweden reels are built ALOT better than the ones made in china. Abu china is horrible ( poor craftsmanship). Plus abu china holds no value like a made in Sweden does. God bless and keep it reel.

I am a 59 year old male and have been fishing in both salt and freshwater since I was 10-12 years old. I have always owned Ambassadeur reels and used them because they were well built, easy to clean and lubricate, and parts were always accessible. However, as the smaller and lighter palmable reels from Shimano and Diawa came on the market, with more ball bearings for smoother casting at greater distances, and good brake and drag systems, I started using them for bass fishing. I now us my 5500 and 6500 Ambassadeur reels for saltwater fishing. The Ambassadeur reels store more line, are easier to clean, and are less susceptible to fowling from sand and salt. I probably have about a dozen Ambassadeur reels now, and recently bought the newer, lighter models 5500C3 and 6500C3. They seem to be holding performing fine as I would expect an Ambassadeur reel to do. This reel casts very nicely and is tangle free once you master the thumbing of the reel spool. The reel is manufactured very well and is a high quality fishing tool. The reel is attractively designed and is finished very nicely. It balances well with a medium weight rod. This reel can be used both for casting baits and for deep trolling as it is substantial enough to handle the big fish. It also has a large enough spool to handle enough line for deeper trolling. I use the reel for bass casting, trolling for walleye on the bottom and for trolling suspended fish at various depths. Nice all around reel for all types of fishing.
I use this reel exclusively in saltwater for redfish and black drum. I have it spoiled with 40# braid and mounted on a 7 ft. Medium action rod. Occasional jack Carville to 25# give it a workout it can handle. I do have it and My other 5500's outfitted with power handles off of 6500's.

I'm 55 and have fished my entire life. I started using these reels years ago because they last. I've bought the fancy ones and they will not hold up day in and day out. As an avid bass fishermen I cast a lot and some of my C3's are over l 20 years old. The only thing I've ever had to do is change out a pawl now and then. In short, simply a work horse, simple and very durable.
