The Vexter Box of Rock is a silkscreened version of ZVEX's first distortion pedal, highly specialized to simulate the "everything on 10" sound of a classic Marshall amplifier. The silkscreened ZVEX Box of Rock has one "Distortron Engine" stomp switch - that's no typo, but what Mr. Vex himself calls his distortion circuit.

Killer distortion/boost pedal for the money.
In my never ending quest for tone, my recent road has led me to the ZVex Box of Rock. I had known about this pedal for a while, but finally felt the need to purchase and I am quite glad I did. The Vexter version is replacing my King of Tone on my pedal board. I mostly play Fender (single coil) guitars into a Fender Deluxe Reverb RI (with Weber speaker)....I love the clean bite however needed some good dirt akin to something British on occasion, this pedal does it well. As I rarely get to turn the DRRI past 3, I leave the SHO portion of the BoR on all the time. When I need Fender cleans, I have the Distortron side off, however a lot of times I will just roll down the volume on the guitar to clean it up. I recently played a gig where we covered Weezer's Blue Album, I played whole set Tele (single coil) - Box of Rock (both sides on) - DRRI, just rolled back volume for clean parts...it was very much in your face huge and cut the mix well, no need to haul around the JCM900. I also like the crackle. It will be on my board for a while. Pros: Simple to operate, pedal friendly, cleans up with guitar volume, small, plenty of volume (don't blow your amp!), excellent build quality and tone, affordable. Cons: Small (switches are close together), have to keep tone knob past 1 o'clock or too muddy.Read full review

Excellent tone and playability.
The BOR is an excellent distortion box, much more fluid and dynamic than some would think, since it's been characterized as a "Marshall In A Box". The Marshall that it seems to capture is that elusive, jangly tone of the JTM45. Due to its excellent voicing, it works well feeding the front end of an amp as well as feeding my digital rack processors (11R and GSP1101) for some nice texturizing. The only fault with my BOR are the scratchy pots. The circuitry itself works fine, but all the pots seem to be equally scratchy. I've read elsewhere that this is an issue with the BOR; for me, the tone is so nice that i don't care if i have to listen to some scratchy pots. Rgds.

zvex box of rock (clone)
What I like about the zvex box of rock, is that you get two pedals in one. The ovredeive side can go from clean boost to the cranked Marshall (as the pedal says) the boost is very clean, and you allmost get more boost then you need. I have it at 1 o clock and that's still a 20db gain. The only thing I don't like about this pedal (and I don't think it applies to all with mine being a clone) it has 3ptd switches but its not wired for true bypass, my vexter box of rock is but doesn't sound as good. all in all this is must have in my opinion.

Box of Rock - Les Paul / Marshall JMP & 4x12.
The Vexter Series ZVEX Box Of Rock is a killer boost / overdrive / distortion all rolled into one slim silver, well, box of rock. You get a edgy full sounding overdrive with all knobs at noon. Pushing the distortion circuit higher reveals the pedals distortron capabilities, a presense rich growl complete with lows, mids, and highs. The Volume control works with the Gain circuit to help you dial in your desired tone, and you can dial in slight dirt, a crunchy rhythm, or a fully saturated sounding lead tone. The Boost side of the pedal does exactly that - makes the first stage of the pedal louder. Keep in mind that this side of the pedal works independently of the distortron side - you can decide to use the Boost side to slam your amp into overdrive without ever touching the distortron engine side. Four knobs give you an amazing amount of tone choices. My rig is a Les Paul Custom and Marshall JMP / 4x12 and the Box of Rock is a great addition to my pedalboard.Read full review

Greatest Distortion/OD/ Clean Boost on the market
This is the single greatest distortion/boost pedal on the market. I've owned several products like the fulltone fulldrive 2 mosfet and the boss blues driver and this runs them straight into the ground. The pedal makes all my amplifiers sound like a raging marshall stack. A lot of reviews say the pedal has SCRATCH POTS, but this is inaccurate. The reality is that it is designed to have pots that crackle. These are part of the reason the pedal sounds so amazing. The boost side of the pedal is fantastic and doesn't push my vox ac30 into OD, just a fat clean boost. My Fender Super reverb on the other hand can become very raspy when the boost goes above 10 o clock. This is really dependent on your amplifier so expect different reactions. On my solid state fender stage it just fattens up the tone and boosts the volume as well. The ROCK side of the pedal does the exact same thing on every amp I've plugged it into, it turns it into a roaring Marshall. The telecaster and paul tones are very different and rolling back the volume of your guitar really cleans this pedal up and makes for a versatile stage performer. Go to a store and try one of these out before you waste your money on anything else. New or used you can't beat the price for the value.Read full review
