The vintage headstock banner "Only a Gibson is good enough" doesn't make this beautiful instrument a classic, but the Bozeman, Montana craftsmanship certainly does: All solid woods and several historic details come together in a guitar that's easy to play, lightweight and a solid performer. Gibson issued the original J-35 even before the now legendary J-45. I personally love the J-45, but have not been able to find one that talks to me (I also don't have a huge budget). This one does! I am still experimenting with different string gauges, but my first impression is that this guitar is well made, plays nicely -and best of all: It has the uncanny tonal character of a Gibson acoustic. The built-in pickup is unobtrusive, but also lacks quality. Since I don't play Carnegie Hall often, for the time being this pickup stays in the guitar. Bottomline: if you can't find a good sounding J-45 in your price range, you really should play the J-35. It has beautiful Mahogany/Spruce tone, awesome playability, but no sunburst finish. A classic Gibson re-invented in the 21st Century.Read full review

I was looking for a good guitar at a reasonable price. I considered many brands, did my research, and settled on either a Martin or a Gibson because I had owned at least one of each. I bought this one, "lightly used" on ebay and saved a couple of hundred bucks over a new one. It is opening up nicely and sounds great. The J35 has a short scale length and is easier to finger with my small hands. Workmanship is excellent, as with all Gibsons, and the finish is prime as well. It stays in tune for weeks and is exactly what I wanted; a good to great sounding, well made instrument at a reasonable price.
I have always been a big fan of Gibson guitars, but never been able to justify the cost.I have twice settled for Epiphone, and while they are decent guitars, I always hoped that one day I could afford a Gibson.. After months and months of looking at different guitars, I came across the Gibson J-35. The first thing that caught my eye was the price. It was much cheaper than it's cousin the J-45. I thought the same thing as most people. They probably sacrificed quality for this price... After playing the J-35, I realized that I could not have been more wrong. This guitar is absolutely beautiful. It is very light in weight, and the playability is wonderful. The sound is absolutely amazing, and the price is incredible! This guitar straight up puts both of my epiphones to shame, not even close!
Amazing price when you compare to J-45
