I've played the guitar for over 30 years. All types of music from rock, country, folk, bluegrass, pop, etc. and I've had some pretty nice instruments during this time. I've always known that Gibson made great guitars, but I was a "Martin Man", and a beautiful Martin D-3R has been my main guitar for the past decade. I was looking for another Martin...maybe a D-28 or a D-35 when I happened upon the Gibson Songwriter. It was love at first sight (and sound). Not only is this guitar beautiful, it sounds incredible and plays like a dream. The sound is softer than the Martin, but the tones are bright and very pure. The play action is soooo easy...I just don't want to put it down. It sounds every bit as good when amplified as it does as an acoustic...something the D-28 or the D-35 can't do. I'm now lucky enough to have two outstanding guitars that will handle just about any type of music I want to play. I'm thrilled that I found and chose to buy the Gibson Songwriter, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an acoustic/electric guitar that sounds and plays as great as it looks.Read full review
I have owned several acoustic guitars during my years of playing. I buy one, play it while I faithfully put money away to trade up. I finally got to the point to be able to trade up to a Gibson Sonwriter Deluxe Studio. MAN.... What an awesome guitar. Unfortunately I still couldn't get the 2010 J200 Studio, whick is larger and has a booming sound, but this 2004 Studio is all the guitar I will ever need. I profess that I will never reach professional status and play live shows due to my advanced age before learning. However, I will have a chance as I do now to join other musicians in jam sessions and fun get togethers. This guitar has a full rich sound, great feel, comfortable size, and awesome looks. The ebony fingerboard with the MOP inlays is simply beautiful and lightening fast. It has low action with no fret buzz and plugged in it is a monster of tone. I played the Martins, Taylers, and Breedloves and I just fell in love with the sound of the Gibson. I recommend that you always try out many brands and models before you buy a guitar, as each has its own feel and personality. But for the money spent, this Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Studio is a 4 out of 5 star guiar with only the 2010 J200 model surpassing it. Live long, play hard. Peace, Love, and Rock n Roll....Read full review
It was 113 degrees that summers day in Granbury, Tx. The guitar arrived well packed but extremely warm from being in that truck all day at 7:15PM on a Monday. I took it out of the packing and case, set in the corner on a guitar stand for 5 hours, then strung and tuned it, and by 1:30 am Tuesday I had it playing. Got some sleep, woke and tuned it again. At 4:05 pm, I had to be at church for sound check for a Gospel Sing Fest at 5:00 pm. Sound check sounded good, I went back and fine tuned it again, then at about 5:30 I went on stage, hooked the Songwriter Deluxe Gibson 12 string to our Churche's sound system and did my thing. The Gibson sounded awesome!! The people rose and applauded to "This Old House" and I just shouted "Praise the Lord!" I and my church friends loved the Gibson. it sounded lika a whole orchestra of guitars playing.Read full review
I have couple of Martins including a sweet HD-28, recently I heard a great demo of a Gibson Songwriter and I had to have one, I purchased a 2011 guitar. The Gibson has tonal quality that in addition to the powerful bass, crystal clear mids and great sustain, has a 'sparkling' or 'singing' tone to it. It is great for strumming, flat picking and finger picking. It is beautifully constructed and easy to play. I initially installed a set of Martin Lifespan SP strings and it just did not sound right, so I order a set of Gibson Masterbuilt Premium Phosphor Bronze .012 -.053. That did the trick and gave the guitar the beautiful full sound that I had been expecting. The guitar is well worth the money.
With this being a brand new guitar, I took it to my local music store, and had a friend who works there, "set" it up. Always a good idea when buying a new guitar. This guitar sounds great and is easy to play. The price I paid was awesome. I could not find a new one for this price anywhere. Thank you eBay!!!!! I would highly recommend this guitar!!!!!
