As a former architectural student, this is still my favorite of the Wright books I've seen. The book is filled with plans, and even rare sectional and detail drawings of the famous 3 inch sandwich wall construction. The major Usonian house designs get a large plan and several pictures. The Jacobs, Goetsch-Winkler, Rosenbaum, and Pope houses are all here as well as lesser known houses and projects. The author divides the houses into many different design types such as Pollywog, Inline, or Hexagonal, etc.. He includes 2 page plans for the Hanna and Wall houses, but the Bazett house gets a single page plan. Also covered are the extended Usonians like the Lloyd Lewis and Affleck houses, The Life/ Schwartz house, Richardson house, and others are also showcased, Some of the lesser known projects have small thumbnail plans, The size of the reproduced magazine pages in the back of the book are barely large enough to be read. These faults are easily forgiven considering the wealth of valuable information the book presents. This is not a pretty picture coffee table book, but an excellent overview of Wright's affordable houses from a design standpoint.Read full review

In depth looks at some key early Usonian designs. Highlights of features which would be seen repeatedly through the remainder of Wrights residential portfolio.

The front in all the reproduced texts are so tiny, they are impossible to read and the floor plans are about the size of my thumbnail. This book is totally useless!
