When you're looking at subs, basically you get what you pay for. Expensive subs ($1000 and up) are going to give serious deeper, tighter and lower bass than inexpensive subs (generally under $500). This is an inexpensive sub. For the price, it's okay. It makes a good sub for computer speakers. My main sub is a JL Audio D110 - I couldn't compare the pioneer to this because it is no where close, but I did compare it to my desktop computer speakers I currently have hooked up - Klipsch THX promedia 2.1 system. The pioneer was similar in sound quality to the Klipsch, however, the Pioneer uses an 8" driver while the Klipsch only uses a 6". Surprisingly, the Klipsch was louder and deeper, going down to the notes the Pioneer got close to but couldn't quite reach. Even on the loudest setting, the Pioneer wasn't as loud as the Klipsch, again surprising because it uses a larger driver. I'm guessing the amp is under powered, and that it would probably perform a bit better if pioneer used a stronger amp in the cabinet. Overall, the sound is okay if you just want something to quietly fill in the low end for a pair of small bookshelf or desktop computer speakers. But if you're looking for something to go deeper for music, or to rumble the walls with movies, this one isn't it. It's a good little sub, but it really is true that you get what you pay for. For the price (under $100) it does a good job for what it's designed for.Read full review

Short Review of Pioneer SW-8MK2 Subwoofer. It really is the missing link if you have the new Pioneer SP-FS52 tower speakers. The SW-8 MK2 sub woofer really adds a nice clear bottom end to the music. I have not had a chance to properly setup the Pioneer VSX-524-K Receiver and SP-FS52 speakers and SW-8 Sub to the room acoustics yet with the supplied mic, but right out of the box the towers and sub system sounds clear and lively. I purchased a Mediabridge/Medialink Ultra RCA Sub woofer cable to hook the sub up so it gets nice current flow (something I learned from electric guitar cords). Listen to it with a song with good bass lines and you will be happy you found the missing link....the entire system is super !
I have owned numerous Sub's thru the years, but for my money and sound quality these units are almost impossible to beat. Have two unit coupled to my main stereo, due to Room size & coupled with Martin Logan Motion 10's. The other is with my smaller system, for Kids and grand Kids come visit. Not one to shake the whole house during MOVIES, listen to a lot of older pop, and current smooth jazz. These fit my bill & budget perfectly. RobyK

I bought this subwoofer to accompany my subwoofer that i already had. I had already purchased one sub identical to this one, so you know already i like them. I just wanted a little more bass for explosions and gun fire in movies, one sub is defiantly sufficient for an everyday user. I got this and instantly hooked it up with my other woofer and boy does the bass really explode out now, i am only running the subs at half volume and its amazing bass. the quality from theses is pure greatness and clean i love Andrew Jones pioneer products great for the money!
Great sub that makes the walls shake. You can't go wrong with the minimalistic Andrew Jones's design and the quality of deep sound it produces. The product has been discontinued but I am glad I was able to get my hands on it. It does have a minor hum when in stand by mode but once you start playing it disappears. It is a con that other users reported as well but it doesn't bother me at all. I am using it with pioneer receiver and Y RCA cable. Overall, I'd give it a very solid recommendation for people who like to play electronic music and vinyls. Thank you Pioneer and Andrew Jones for making history with this product.
