Possibly one of the best games, not only for N64, but ever, Ogrebattle 64 combines the intricate developement and decision making of an rpg, with the epic tactical war gameplay of rts. Set in a medieval world, OB64 takes you along the campaign of a young nobleman and his army, growing and being torn apart along the way, seeking the truth to the many mysteries of the world they live in. In this game, you control units of 5 people or less that you use in order to liberate or capture towns along the way, saving them from the enemy. There are healers, mages, knights, beast masters and more, not to mention master classes and secret classes as well. There are over a dozen characters that can join your battalion along the way depending on your actions throughout the game, and there are several different endings decided by that as well. A highly recomended game for any rpger due to the amazingly complex role playing system and interesting scenes. The story is truly captivating and the ability to shape your own destiny in a way keeps you playing over and over. This game not only keeps you entertained for the 40+ hours of play it takes to beat it, but it also gives a great euphoric feeling. The graphics are unfortunately not 64 bit, but the game makes up for that in making the landscape so vast, and the cinematics so detailed. Hopefully you will feel the same way I do about Ogrebattle 64, but either way it is absolutely worth a try. Have fun and good luck to you!Read full review
Ogre Battle 64 for is one of my most favorite games. Since the Nintendo 64 I've owned many systems, but no other games has caused me to sit in front of the T.V. screen as long. The game requires simple tatics skills so young kids can enjoy it, but has a great storyline that older players can appreciate. What you need to do in the game is move your army across a map. You move each platoon to strategic positions and take over enemy strongholds. There is also many chances to interact with npcs to gain goods and possibly other soldiers. The only fall back is the rarity of the game, which drives the price up.
Amazing game, fun strategies, many different paths to choose through out the game which means tremendous replay ability. Anyone who likes RTS games and RPG games will love this game. Very fun to organize and customize different battalions and level up your favorite characters and choose your own styles. There's also MANY characters and items you can unlock which also influences your final outcome in the game. Not to mention great story line. I beat this game three or four times by now but lost my game when i went to college so i ordered a new one cause i just need to play again =0.
With it's amazing graphics, (12/10 considering its N64) very detailed story line, extremely complex character development, (not kidding!) challenging-to-master but fun battle system, ton's of features, and many extra goals, this game could easily seize the title of "Best game for the N64" against games like Super Smash Bros. and the Zelda games. If you own an N64 (still...) like many nintendo advocates (like me, lol) and you like war/strategy/rpg games, this is a must buy.
witht he playstation gaining almost all of the rpg fans during its run, ogre battle was perhaps the only decent rpg on the n64 apart from paper mario and harvest moon. the sad thing is, the game itself isn't that great. as far as strategy rpgs goes, this one is subpar. the graphics are proudly old school 2D but the strategic elements in the game seem lacking. mostly its just commanding a bunch of units on a overhead map and attacking enemies. still comparatively on the system, this was the best to hope for.
