Perhaps you've considering buying gold but are turned off by the premiums charged by major national mints. Consider another choice. Since I got out of college and had my first job, I've been buying an assortment of world gold coins. Did you know you can buy a (circa) 1900 5 Rouble in BU minted in Imperial Russia for around $250? And they are easy to find on eBay. For less than $100 consider a 2 or 2-1/2 1945 BU Peso from Mexico. Or a roughly nickel sized Austrian 10 Coronas. Once you find a reputable seller, you can branch out into French Napoleonic 20 Francs or how about a 19th century Victoria 1/2 Soveriegn from Great Britain? You'll be surprised at the choices before long with a little discipline, you'll have a great nest egg started. All for a lot less than you've been led to think. Have fun!Read full review

I toured the USSR in July/August 1991, just prior to the tanks rolling over red square. There were many activities on the streets by the young people wanting a change, especially in the Ukraine. Russia, in particular has a colorful history and I purchased this coin as a simple nostalgia piece to remember that month by and the history of this amazing and enormous country.
5 Roubles supply is drying up world wide and any certified coin's au or better are very good investments for the short to long term.
