I bought this unit couple months ago for my trip to Europe. I visited few countries: Switzerland, France, Italy. Drove for about 1500 kms. For the most part unit performed ok. Although , in couple instances it could not find location address, but luckily my rental car had built in navigation system. With this unit you have to remember that it looks for your destination address near your current location. If you travelling pretty far you have to tell it near what town it has to look for address. Same goes to travelling in diferrent countries. Let say if you start in one country and your destination in different country it might not find address. You have to manually have to enter town and country of your destination. It will not switch automatically. In general it is pretty good unit if you can get it for under $100.Read full review

First never buy a GPS without lifetime maps. (reason I had to buy this one when my old one was working fine except needed a update that cost $80). I did have to download new maps right away and it took 6 hours. Second this GPS is very nice but has a few flaws. If you select certian avoidances it won't work as expected. I haven't figured out why yet, but trust me, be very careful selecting them or you will be driving the side roads instead of the main roads. After a dead end dirt road I knew it wasn't working right! If you select avoid traffic, it avoids main roads. If you select to avoid carpool lanes, it avoids roads that have carpool lanes-thus no interstates. ETC. I deselected All avoidances and set it to fastest route for best results. All the other features (eco, fuel saver, less traffic etc)seem to confuse the GPS. I drive all day back and forth across dallas/fw so I quickly learned what works. Also you first select street number, then road, then it searches your whole state for possibilities. Sometimes you get too many but usually it's not bad. So it can be faster than my older 255 garmin due to not needing to select town. Not sure what happens if you leave your usual state or want to plot a course out of state, but you can select the town/state if you want to narrow it down later. I've had no problems with visability in the sun and the battery lasts a long time. Overall I'm very satisfied now that I figured it out. However it's too bad a bunch of the options don't work like you'd expect them too. It will pay for itself in a year due to the lifetime maps plus the larger screen(some may find it too big,but I like it since I miss hit the letters less-works best with eraser end of a pencil)real time traffic and better lane views for exiting are nice.Read full review
I bought this because I wanted a gps receiver that would display altitude and inclueded lifetime maps and traffic. I really like the ability to change the dashboard. The split screen showing a photo of approaching turns and exits is handy in unfamiliar territory. It has a really nice sized display that's easy to read. Its "logic" of manuevering between screens is a bit different than the Garmin 250W I also have, but not difficult to learn. The only negative thing I've found was trying to enter an address I knew existed in a small town; it found the town easily enought but when I attemmpted to enter the address it wanted to locate it in a completely different state. Overall, I like the 2555 very much.
I have owned several Garmin and TomToms now and love the ease of use with these Garmin units. I have enjoyed the way it actually shows me my exit with a photo in split screen mode. It really removes any dought as to what lane you have to be in when in heavy trafic or going through a city you are un familure with. What I never understood is why they don't offer Everything in one unit. This unit allows me to change my trip display to show what I want, for example time remaining, or time of arival or both. There are also MANY other options I can have as well. For the "Traffic" to work, you need a special cord hooked up to your unit. Thank goodness mine came with one(It is a device built into the car charger). This unit also comes with all the software for things like bluetooth but doesn't seem to have it. I really like the large display. All my other Garmins have been smaller and now that I have experienced a larger screen, I am ruined from ever enjoying anyone of their smaller units. The volume in this unit is loud as well. I am able to hear mine even with the window down a little bit. Ohh and before I forget, The life Time updates are 4 times a year. So every 90 days you can download updates...not bad at all.Read full review
