I recently purchased a new computer, and was definitely in need of updating my external backup. This Seagate drive met all of my needs - I didn't need anything too small / portable, so this desktop version is perfect, and it's definitely sleek & unobtrusive. It has 3TB of space which is more than enough, but I also plan on being able to store large size photos from my DSLR camera on there as well. The user interface that comes with this product, called the Dashboard, is super easy to use - it opens the application when you connect it to your computer and according to your settings, begins the backup process on its own.
I have no complains so far about performance (got it a week ago). Transferred almost 300 gb in 2 h (mac's usb 2.0), does not heat up, vibrate,or make big noise (just a subtle cooling fan-like noise). A cool thing I didn't know is that it comes NTFS formatted, but with a driver that allows mac to write and read it. I reformatted it anyway, in case of any errors or whatever, but saved the driver. The backup software it comes with is for windows only. It also saves all your uploads to all major social sites, a feature I consider useless and pointless, since I at least save/backup all my videos and photos regularly, before I use them in any way OR I can simply dl them like anyone else from where I posted them. Also, I only use Seagate for selective data storage, not for auto backup. I got it for the great price of 112$=3Tb (shipping included) and for the fact that I own another seagate 3TB (Goflex) that for a year I have not had major problems with in terms of performance and HD failure or data loss. Besides the noisy fan and the lack of a power button/energy saver, the GoFlex design was what I hated most: poorly constructed in terms of sturdiness and balance (the SATA/usb3.0 outlet stand was way lighter than the unit and offered no support for the standing position, while other positions somehow placed the cables in a funny way, standing on the desk, hard to accommodate, while the usb port of the stand was very prone to damage if the cable stood in a bad position, having to replace the entire charger/stand). The backup plus has the same basic design, slightly improved. If you don't move it, once you've found a good position, you'll be fine.Read full review

nice drive, moves files fast, easy and perfect way to backup your home computer or business information. easy to cary and store, also has a huge capacity for whatever you need. as a customer I would definatly purchase another product from seagate in the future according to my needs. very reliable, compact, and user friendly with a fast transfer through usb3 port. if you're looking for a new big hard drive for a low budget, this is the perfect solution.
Very nice drive. I have had 3 of these for a while now and not 1 has let me down yet. I use them attached to a USB 3.0 card installed on my cpu and they transfer large files fairly quick, considerably faster than from internal HDD to internal HDD. If left on for 2 or 3 days it does get a little warm, but nothing I would worry about. I will keep buying these until I can't find them anymore or until a better "storage" device is available for the price. For the price and speed, you can't beat this as a "storage" device. I never have used the backup and store software it comes with but I provided a link below for you to check out a little more about the drive. http://www.seagate.com/external-hard-drives/desktop-hard-drives/backup-plus-desk-v1/ 100_percent_satisfaction
Bought this to backup my laptop files after a hard drive crashed. Super value for a highly rated drive. Very easy plug-and-play setup. Fast and works very well. [Was advised by my tech to NOT use their auto-backup software, but rather to copy new/updated files myself manually, so I cannot comment on that.] I have a smaller Iomega 1T HD and this seems a bit faster. Highly recommend this HD for most any use.
