Ecobee is a terrific company with an excellent product - This Product. If you know about HVAC and electricity, then you should have no problems at all. For ALL other users: (1) RTFM. End to end. More than once. Call ecobee with any questions. Most everything is in the manual, but not always where you might expect to find it. (2) After RTFM, consider your comfort level with DIY. If you don't mind poking around wires and expensive equipment, in basements and attics full of dust and crawly things and smelly water and other debris, then have at it. If you have even the SLIGHTEST DOUBT, then it is far, far cheaper to pay a qualified mechanic to do the job for you. It's not just labor, nor even skill + know-how – it is insurance. If you know what a new HVAC system costs, then you know how much insurance you are buying for an hour or two of a mechanic's time. Not cheap, but, really, worth it. That could double the cost to get one of these set up. But once you do, you will love it for how well it does its job. Lastly, there are cosmetics to consider. It took me 8 hours to install mine - I had to patch and paint to make the wall look good. So - the product is usually a DIY project and fairly quickly done, unless you need a new wire. But do consider the whole project and plan accordingly. Read full review

If you setup a nest and thought this was as simple unfortunately it is not. The nest does not require you have a common wire for simple installation. For the ecobee if you don't have one you are required to install a power extender kit on your ac panel. This is no simple task so I returned mine and switched back to Nest.

Excellent materials; extremely easy to use. Display is easy to read and understand and very intuitive. Installation was a breeze (as long as you have the required 'C' connection). The sensors (both in the main unit and the remote unit) are very accurate and the HVAC system responds to it very well. Overall, I am very pleased with the entire operation and would recommend it... in fact, I am considering purchasing another for the second floor of my house (it has a separate HVAC unit).

You don't really appreciate the benefit of this relatively expensive thermostat until you control it remotely. Being able to adjust it while on your way home or in bed during the night is worth the price alone. While it needs more customization settings, the interface is easy to use and view. The current temp is always visible even from across the room and a detailed view (outside temp, adjustment bar) comes as soon as you step in front. But the feature that really sets this thermostat apart is the remote sensor. Being able to have the overall temp adjust to an important remote location (master bedroom) to the central unit (den) is invaluable. Now we don't "burn up" sleeping while the den is cool. It's expensive but the remote access, remote sensors, ease of installing & using helps pay for itself. Read full review

We alernate one week at home & one week at the cabin. Hated coming home to heat in the summer & cold in the winter. Now we shut off the AC to save $ but return to comfort using WiFi. As a process control engineer, I appreciate the historical charts to monitor performance & to improve efficiency. Separate temperature & fan controls with unlimited comfort settings gives me the flexibility I need. Use of the remote sensor that senses occupancy allows me to optimize comfort in our bedroom at night. Android phone app & iPad homekit functions are quite acceptable. System provides alerts to change air filters, remote sensor dropout, etc. Best Intelligent Consumer-grade Thermostat, bar none.
